I want to have a discussion about satellite radio
Recently I purchased the XM myfi, the first portable satelitte radio now i have two satellite radios, one from sirius and one from XM. So I have a question for everyone on this site, what company is better: Sirius or XM and state why.

Enjoy.

1. I love XM...
I never tried Sirius, but XM carries ACC men's basketball, has Fine Tuning (one of my favorites), Cinemagic (one of my favorites) and the Mix (Channel 22 - contemporary adult alternative).

I'm sure Sirius is nice too, but since I got XM as a present from a previous employer and then added a couple of receivers I saw no reason for making a change.

2. Never used Sirius. Here's why I like XM:
1. Chose it over Sirius because they have MLB.

2. Broadway & Cinemagic - cool.

3. VOX - even though it's mostly opera, they do play some choral stuff.

4. Comedy 150 & 151 - really helps during a lousy commute.

5. 3 or 4 jazz stations

6. the Decades

7. Bob Edwards

8. live TV news channel feeds

3. XM
It's got AAR.

I don't think Sirius has it, but I'm not sure.

5. XM is great!
I love it. I don't have personal experience with Sirius, but I do know they have two rightwing talk channels and only one liberal talk channel. And no AAR!

6. I like Sirius
The music choice is better, and on their 70's station they hire deejays just like the wacky morning AM radio deejays of the 70's...

But I've never heard XM, so I dunno...I get Air America locally so I don't need XM for that...

9. At least Sirius has Thom Hartmann
got us through a long drive through Wyoming.

But XM has MLB.

Trying to choose as well - Christmas gift for S.O.

7. I'm torn between getting XM and Sirius
Here's the Sirius radio (which is damn cool looking!):

And here's the XM radio:

I'm leaning more toward Sirius because they have a broader selection of music. The main appeal for XM for me is MLB but I really only listen to the local teams.

12. The Sirius and XM portables are cool
But I chose to get the myfi due to price and because XM has AAR. I was thinking of getting the Sirius S50 but it costs over$300.

Thanks but no thanks.

10. Really depends on your tastes, needs,
Both have pluses and minuses depending on what you want in terms of genres, talk (xm has aar, sirius their own talk left), sports, etc. I think both offer free trials, so it's best to sample them both, look at the lineups and decide.

11. I am pissed at Sirius because they pre-empt the ONLY lefty channel
for FOOTBALL...like there is NO other channel that has football.. The 4 or 5 right wing stations are NEVER preempted.. I will be dropping them as soon as the contract runs out..

13. There liberal channel is all right
They have alot of good personalties like The young turks, Thom Hartmann and "big" Ed Schultz. Stephanie Miller is cool but can be annoying at times but it dosen't get any better when she makes fun of Bill O'rielly and Sean Hannity. I think she like supposed to be the liberal Glen Beck.

16. I know, but the last THREE times I have been in my car
(the reason I BOUGHT the thing), MY ONE and ONLY channel is preempted for FOOTBALL..I flip channels and of course the PATRIOT station is going full blast, the TALKRIGHT station is fine..ABCTALK is fine..JUST my channel is preempted, and there has to be at least 50 other stations with football, yet for some odd reason , they need to "borrow" one more....mine..

14. I used to have XM, and they were great.

Good service and all, but Sirius has NFL, Stern, and the Little Steven's Underground Garage channel. I want to go back to satellite radio, but I'm torn.

From the little I have heard of Sirius, their music channels seems to be a bit more cohesive. XM has something like 5 alternative channels, and they all play the same thing.

15. I have XM, and I'm fairly happy with it.
The unit was a gift, so I wasn't able to pick the system I wanted, but at any rate, XM is nice. I probably would have picked Sirius for the NFL, but if that isn't important, then XM is a fine choice.

17. I used to have Sirius (for a few years);
a few months ago, I switched to XM.

The ironic part is that we have DISH-TV and I get the Sirius music channels.

I love being able to listen to Air America. They broadcast Hartmann on Sundays (last time I checked).

I remain very happy I switched; I have a MyFi unit.

I have never been a Stern listener (not a fan, in other words, other than finding him an interesting character), so that's not a factor.

Hoping XM will continue to add liberal/progressive hosts.

I enjoy listening to Stacey Taylor (based in San Diego County) on the local Air America affiliate in the 6-9 A.M. slot.

18. Question
Since there are two "formats" available currently, do you think one of them is going to lose favor (ala Sony Betamax vs VHS VCRs) or do you think both are viable?

Are there units that can get both Sirius and XM?
