Reality shows that didn't make the cut:
Edited on Wed Nov-30-05 11:11 AM by qnr
"Star House"

We follow the adventures of an interstellar colonization effort, from the raising of the money, to the hilarious hijinks of the ship being contracted to the lowest bidder, through the launch, the suspended animation of the crew and finally the attempt at a landing on a planet somewhere in the vicinity of Proxima Centauri, 938 years later. All in real time!

Ok, so I like run-on sentences, sue me.

Edit: Deleted extraneous quote (but let the run-on sentence stand)

8. One I wish aired here in USA: Beat the Crusher!
This show actually aired in the UK for a time: couples gambled their cars against each other. The winners got a brand new vehicle, the losers got their car crushed.

There are probably a good number of foreign TV shows that are hit shows in their respective countries but would be a complete flop here. One example was "Who wants to be a Millionaire" - the gameshow itself was OK but the title had to be changed for the Turkish audience because the lowest denomination money at that time was about 10,000 lire - and that worked out to be about 1 cent. In other words everyone was millionaires! Perhaps they should have changed the title to "Who wants to be a Brazillionaire".

One other UK show I think wouldn't work well here in the US would be Treasure Hunt: watching the backside of a fairly attractive woman galavanting across the countryside in a combination of vehicles (helicopter for the big legs, sometimes other vehicles for others)- often running with cameraman lagging behind. If she got to certain places and "solved" certain clues (they gave away a number of hints big time during the show so it turned out to be how fast could that helicopter fly?) with a couple of guest contestants who would help her solve the clues, the contestants would win money.

That TV movie "UHF" starring Weird Al Yankovich had some good ideas for weird shows. One that comes to mind is Conan the Librarian.

I might post some more odd shows later if I get the inspiration. However these will be copyrighted by me so if any media mogul is watching - i'll can your ass if you use these ideas!

9. Baghdad Taxi.
We follow the adventures of the brave taxi drivers of Baghdad as they take people around their city, trying to avoid being blown up in the process. Watch as they attempt self-defusing IEDs, their tactics on transporting westerners around town, and acquiring supplies of gasoline on the black market.

Baghdad Taxi. It'll make you glad to take a Yellow Cab in New York.

11. Katie Couric's "Look what's up my Ass!" starring a new celebrity
every day and special guest announcer Robin Williams reprising his role as "The Genie" from Aladdin. This laugh out loud wacky show promises a colonactacular good time and an educational experience at the same time!

12. "Caught in a Mosh"
Our team of metalheads, lowlifes, cheap-shotters, and thugs attend light-entertainment concerts such as Yanni, Tori Amos, Michael Flatley's Celtic Lion and start some of the most teeth-shattering, head-bashing, ribcage-crushing moshpits ever caught on tape.

15. Fear Factor - Pothead Edition
Watch is Darryl Zapowski and his friends toke up, and are then bribed to do insane stunts while totally fried. Watch them drive cars at 70 miles per hour for over 5 minutes straight, subject themselves to strobe light torture, eat resin, and watch movies with absolutely NO special effects!

:P
