Oregon Coast Photos...dial up warning!

Taken during a family reunion (my big fat Greek kind) this past summer.

Enjoy!

1. Are you using film? The shots are so crisp.

3. Digital camera
five megapixels I think.

They've been reduced to about 15% of their original size. The full versions don't look as nice.

It was actually a sunny day on the coast for a change!

6. Thanks for the information.
I spend a lot on developing film but I still like the final product on scenery shots. I am impressed the clarity that you've captured.

4. It is beautiful!
I have a friend who teaches at Humboldt. I'd move out there if I could afford to live there. Too expensive and jobs don't pay enough.

5. Cannon Beach?
Or Seaside? I can never remember which one has Haystack rock. When I lived out in Portland, we would drive to the coast for the afternoon all the time. It's so relaxing there. I LOVE spending the 4th of July there.

7. Seaside doesn't ring a bell
I think it's Cannon. Near Newport? I've only been out to the coast twice when visiting there. I really like Depot Bay too.

9. I think it is Cannon Beach.
One thing you have to LOVE about the Oregon beaches is that they belong ENTIRELY to the people of the state. No hotels encroaching on them. You can walk the entire Oregon coastline if you want to, technically.

8. Cannon Beach has Haystack Rock.
Seaside is a little too touristy for my taste. Newport Beach is further south on the coast. I think it's west of Eugene or around there.

33. Can't stand Seaside in the summer anymore
Even driving through there on 101 is a pain in the ass. Too damn crowded.

The further south the better, as far as I'm concerned, but I haven't found a bad beach in Oregon yet.

39. We go to Cannon for the beauty and atmosphere, then up to
Seaside for some bumper cars and carnival stuff for the kids. And we try to make it to Ecola State Park for the view. That is so gorgeous!

I think I only have prints of Depot Bay. Haven't been there in several years.

What's the name of the lighthouse that juts out on the point? Begins with a "y" maybe? Red roof, great place for whale watching?

14. I'm glad you like it
my parents moved there 12 years ago. My father's office had a view of Mt Hood. I can't get them to leave. None of their children live any closer than 1500 miles from them but my father loves it and he's staying put.

The coast is often foggy, btw. The ocean is cold.

36. That's what I thought!
My dad always wanted to retire to Oregon and we couldn't figure out why, none of us had ever been there. He never got to because he died too soon, but now I know what he knew! Wow, what a beautiful place. Let's hope you can keep it a secret a while longer so it doesn't get overpopulated.

40. The other thing about Oregon beaches --
they are usually wide and incredibly un-crowded. Even on the busiest beach you will have plenty of space to spread out.

You do have to be careful of sneaker waves and giant rolling logs, especially in the Spring.

I love having nice sunny days like that in the middle of November. It wasn't at all windy either, and everyone had their dogs out for a nice walk on the beach. The sunset was gorgeous that night. The sky was absolutely clear!

29. I'm not sure
I've only been to visit the coast twice since my parents moved there. They're along the coast but I couldn't tell you if they're different beaches. My camera, when downloading pictures, gets the images out of chronological order.

37. I AM SO HOMESICK, THANKS A LOT!
I soooo miss the coast. I used to go to Ecola, about two miles north of Cannon Beach where these pics are taken, a few times a year. The beach is so peaceful. Surrounded by old growth sitka spruce trees and tall western hemlocks, it is one of the country's best kept secrets. Stop posting these photos. In addition to making me sad, you are giving away the secret.

Attn all readers, WARNING: These pics are photo-shopped. Really there is garbage and swill all over the beach, with foul smelling air and rotting trees all around. Nothing nice to see on the Oregon coast. Visitors should not bother heading up there. (Whew, I hope that works)

41. Yes, and what about the surf-by gang shootings?
And, and, those land sharks that devoured several tourists (luckily the local media was able to cover that up)? And, and, how about those giant sinkholes that frequently open up on Oregon beaches and take-out groups at a time? ;)

I LOVE Ecola too, as I posted above. I think it's one of the most spectacularly gorgeous places I've ever been.

43. I did not want to mention the criminal element, but it is horrible
Murders and muggings number in the hundreds every day. The oregon coast is a also known as a haven for kidnappers and pirates that need to feed their water dragons.

Everyone needs to stay away.
