A police officer just came to my house
Edited on Wed Nov-30-05 06:17 PM by BurgherHoldtheLies
They received a 911 call from my house.:wtf:

Turns out my 6 year old, probably at the "direction" of my 7 year old, decided to see if 911 REALLY works. The 4 year old wasn't involved.

When the police officer came to the door, he was very nice when I told him I suspected one of my older 2 kids called 911 and he politely asked to speak to them.

The look of holy terror on their faces when a policeman walked downstairs into the gameroom was priceless.:scared: He was very patient in explaining how 911 is just for emergencies and I hope they got the message.

How embarrassing.

1. I remember doing that to my parents...
my brother and I decided to give it a try, and we thought, if we hung up and didn't tell them where we were...they couldn't find us...which wasn't the case...ten minutes later...cops at the door, parents surprised, and then...whammo...they knew it was us, cops warned us...they left...and then, in the words of bill cosby, "The beatings will now begin"...

3. we couldn't afford 911 when I was a kid. We only had a 9.
And it didn't work.

11. At least you had a 9
We were so poor we didn't even have a phone. Not to mention we didn't have a gameroom. IIRC our apt had a strong resemblence to the old "Honeymooners" set. LOL.

2. Whoops.
:)

Don't worry about it too much. I'm sure it happens fairly often. One time when I was working the concession stand during sports games at my old grade school, kids were fooling around with the pay phone. Didn't think anything about it until a policeman showed up wanting to know what the problem was. :hi:

I'd have wet my pants.

5. He was probably relieved to find it was just your kids.
The last 911 hang-up call my officer friend had to respond to was a domestic "situation" between a husband and a screaming wife...

6. Well, I'll bet the kids learned something!
I understand your embarassment; I'd probably be the same way. But on the other hand, I wish I could have seen the looks on the kids' faces when the cop showed up in the gameroom!!!

And of course, it'll make a great story to share with their girlfriends in coming years!

7. A friend's kid and some neighborhood kids prank-called the fire dept.
to see if they could get a fire truck to show up. It did.

The upshot was that the Fire Dept. billed the family $300 for the false alarm for the prank call.

8. Maybe, the police were checking the kids out for
bruises and cuts, and strange behavior.

9. They certainly "looked" strange trying to hide under the furniture
when he walked down the steps.

Despite their words of denial, their behavior betrayed their guilt.

12. Naw, 911 hangups are required to be followed up on. Each department
handles it differently. Some times just a single vehicle, sometimes two. And, they do go, unless you call right back and absolutely convince someone it was a child or an accidental dial.

10. Well, now they know it works.
I guess that's good. I mean you would be surprised how many those ages don't know to dial 911 in case of emergency. Now, thanks to the police officer, they do.
