Lots of fun, but very energetic household especially when you add in our 3 human children (all 7 and under) The Border Collie is the true herder the other one likes to run and leap, run and leap - it drives the border crazy.

6. Our dog is in the 'Goofy group'
A mixed-breed stray from Johnson City, Texas.

She's a generic 60 lb black dog that looks vaguely like what I imagine a dog from a 'herding group' looks like.

Her official name is Ginger, but the nickname 'Bimbo' has kind of stuck to her. We think it is more appropriate anyway. :D

12. I voted mixed breed.
Max (about 3 1/2) could pass for a pet-quality, breed-standard Pomeranian, except for the fact that he weighs 22 pounds (and no, he's not fat). The last vet who saw him laughed and said we should call him a 'giant Pomeranian' -- but seriously, the Germans and British (and now Aussies and Canadians) have a registered Spitz breed called a 'German Spitz' that he fits perfectly. He's a pretty little guy, but big enough to roughhouse, and loves people. Best of all, for all he has a beautiful coat, he requires reasonably little grooming (yay! because he hates it!).

He was adopted from the Franklin County Humane Society in Indiana -- found him on the Petfinders web site. We were looking for small Spitz and Sheltie mixes because I'd seen so many anecdotal web sites where people had them with cats (we had three when we went looking, and now have four), and they seemed not to have a 'hunt instinct' that would result in major altercations on a daily basis, or possible injuries to either the dog or the cats. We've had him over a year now, and other than our 'alpha' cat stalking him on occasion, there haven't really been too many dog-cat interaction problems. Except when he eats their furry mice, which is really nasty to pick up out of the grass when they come out of the other end.

13. I have four doggies or as my Granddaughter used to say, goggies.
Two Pomeranian (sisters) Abbey and Roxie. They both weigh under 10 lbs. They loved each other, as only sisters can.

A cocker spaniel, he is black and white, mostly black, hence the name Tuxedo. He weighs about 45 lbs. and is a huge baby.

Lastly, my little O8), Sammy,a black and tan Yorkie. She is 1 year old and weighs a little over 5 lbs. She is a sweetheart and so spoiled. Pretty much like the rest.

Edited on Fri Nov-21-03 12:08 PM by Rainbowreflect
Codie is an almost 3 year, 75-80 lb old Golden who still thinks he is a puppy. He chases his tail & rolls on his back kicking all four legs in the air making me laugh every time. Einstien is our 4 year old, 115 lb Black Lab/Sharpai? mix. He is my love-puppy and my protecter. It does not matter how bad my day was or how crappy I look or feel they are always waiting with wagging tails and kisses when we get home.

on edit added weight of doggies.

20. Two Pembroke Corgis (Charlie and Brigette), one Corgi/Border mix (Sneezer)
The "Twins" are brother and sister going on 3 years old, and being herding dogs, think they run the show. Sneezer on the other hand is the old man of the house at going on 11, and he is CHARMING.

The "Psychocorgis" are LOUD and BUSY. They think they know their jobs, and their job is to get into everyone ELSE'S shit. Sneezer is too relaxed and calm to care, bless his heart. There will NEVER be another Sneezer.

21. 2 scotties-both rescues
Hugo is the elder (almost 6) and Angus is about 4, but a perpetual adolescent, like a lot of terriers. I wonder if he has some Jack in him--he's very long legged and FAST. Also crafty as can be.
i don't know how to put a picture in. They are really cute. Could use a bath right now though....terriers get a kind of earthy smell to them, and mine do not appreciate a shampoo. Cleanliness is anathema to a terrier, i think.

29. 6 doggies, kodi, aja, abba, dr j, luckie, & little bit
Kodi is the grand dame of the pack. 11 years old on Xmas. She was a dominant doggie even at 2 months of age, she was the largest female kuvasz anyone ever saw (160 pounds). But she is a real sweetie with children and silly when I am around. And I guess I would describe her as the Mohammed Ali of the house.

Aja (II) is a large female kuvasz (120 pounds)and the problem child of the pack. I rescued her two years ago from a family who could not handle her rambunctiousness. She is too smart for her own good. Totally loving, but so inquisitive that she is into everything. She is my “white shadow” since she is constantly by my side whenever I am home. I have tripped over her too, too many times to even mention. And she loves apples!

Abba is the only male kuvasz in the pack (120 pounds). He is truly a “righteous” dude. He is gentle, but strong, smart, but silly. Non-aggressive, but tough, and he is the embodiment of what I think are admirable traits for a person. He and Aja (II) contest each night for the slot of sleeping by my side: first on the bed gets the spot! Unlike the other dogs who circle like land sharks whenever I am eating, Abba waits quietly aside for me to finish eating, and I always give him the first treat because of his patience.

Dr j is a “good boy,” and another rescue dog who appeared at my door. He is a gentle and sensitive, but strong Lab (100 pounds), who is friendly to all, but he is a terror around the food bowl, which I constantly scold him for. When he jumps on the bed, he literally sleeps on top of me, much to my chagrin. Dr J is always the first to greet me when ever I return home.

Luckie is a rescue dog (65 pounds) a mix of black lab and pit bull (i think), and is Kodi’s "black shadow" as she considers Kodi her mom, and they dot on each other. Lucky is the only dog EVER that Kodi has allowed to eat from Kodi’s food bowl while it is next to Kodi. Her nickname is Lickie Dog, because Luckie likes to lick. she has now decided that my recliner is her bed.

Little Bit is the Chihuahua I rescued last Sept. She was 3 pounds when she wandered to my gate in a pouring rain storm, and is now fattened up to 8 pounds!). she sits on my table next to me when I am on the Net, and sleeps under the covers of my bed, which means the other dogs step on her when they jump on the bed. Where upon, Little Bit starts barking at them from under the covers. Whenever I call her name, she spins in a circle and crouches as if to play.

i consider myself a canine anthropologist...and probably will write a book about the pack called "kuvasz in the mists."

34. 3 dogs of my own and a foster girl
Catfish and Hushpuppy - Australian Shepherd brothers dumped at a park at 4 months old. Hushpuppy is a double merle and is deaf and has limited vision. They will be 3 years old in January.

Neo - He was left at shelter in Florida almost 2 years ago and was named Budweiser. He's a double merle and is Aussie or Border Collie and something else probably Nordic given his tail. He was rescued by a deaf dog rescue and fostered in Florida and his foster Mom changed his name to Neo. Really I can call him anything as he is deaf and he has limited vision. The name Neo is OK with me as long as nobody thinks it's short for Neo-Con. I adopted him in September of 2002 and he is 5 years old.

Rebecca - foster girl, probably a Miniature Aussie or small Aussie, double merle, some hearing problems and limited vision. She came from a shelter in Boone County, WV and I've had her since June. There are two families interested in her now. She is about 2 years old.
