Do The Tropical Fish In My Aquarium Get Bored?
Swim, swim, swim. What to do, what to do? I think I'll swim over here and see what's new.

Nothing new over here. Same old rock, same old plastic driftwood, same old plants, same old other fish swimming about. Hey! Here comes Tetra... and there she goes. Didn't even speak! Bitch!

Swim swim swim... is it time to eat yet? Look! The guy who always drops food in the water is getting closer. Maybe it's time to eat! And... there he goes. No food this time.

Swim swim swim. I think I'll go to the other side of the tank and see what's going on over there. Yep, bubbles still coming out of the rocks. Oh I'm so bored. There's nothing to do. Is this all there is?

1. Luckily all of my fish were born in my aquarium and that is all
they know. All of my adults were killed in Katrina! x( Four days without electricity will do that!

5. Sorry about your fish. :^( We have only lost one and I really dunno
what happened to him. He was an algae eater and was getting rather plump like his namesake, Hagrid, when one day he flopped over and sunk to the bottom of the tank.

Hopefully Hagrid the sceond will fare better. Borke my hubby's heart to have to flush the first one. (The fish are really his, not mine. I am more of a mammal person.)

6. Same here. The fish aquarium is my husband's.
When we got it, I told him it was his deal not mine. I hate cleaning those things. But I still get sad when they die. Or biggest, oldest, and prettiest one died during the hurricane! :(

7. I suspect my hubby not cleaning the old tank is what did Hagrid in
There was too much algae and the fish had no self-control. :(

Are yours fresh or saltwater?

8. Mine are freshwater.
My husband wants a saltwater tank, but I know it is a lot of work. I think we should stick with freshwater for a while. And those fish are expensive. So losing one would be doubly bad!

9. Ours are too for the same reason. We have
Edited on Thu Dec-01-05 03:22 PM by GreenPartyVoter
5 tetras: Harry, Ron, Hermione, Fred, and George

2 Sand dollars: Crabbe and Goyle

2 Gouramis (sp): Filch and Snape

and of course the aforementioned Hagrid the second.

We found a bigger tank at the dump and moved our guys out of their old starter tank. Now we have room for a couple more fish so we are looking for something white and fluttery to be our Dumbledore. :)

14. Well, now that we have more room we might get at least a Voldemort
Had to go with those names, though, since we got a castle to put in the corner of the tank. Fred and george really are twins, and Harry has a black tip on his dorsal fin. Not quite a lightning bolt scar, but close enough. *g*

3. On the contrary...
I think it goes more like this:

Swim, swim, swim. Hmm... a rock! and some driftwood!

swim, swim, swim. Hey! Manna from heaven!

swim, swim, swim. Ooooo... bubbles!

4. You give them too much credit
Swim...swim...food? No: shit. Puh! Swim...swim...food? No, that's the same shit I ate a minute ago. If only my memory was longer than 30 seconds, I wouldn't keep doing that. Swim...swim...oh! The Food God is here! Yay! Yay! Bastard! Come back! Food! Food! Swim...swim...food? No: shit. Over here? No: rock. Swim...swim...

10. They have a memory span of a few seconds
so I doubt they get bored. What's old is what's new again.

12. How could any fish of yours be bored?
It must be the thrill of a fishy lifetime to live in one of your tanks, Alan...

15. Well, Thanks...
... I do keep their tank and filter clean. And I've done them the favor of trying to make it look as natural and realistic as possible. (Meaning... NO fluorescent underwater castles, no bubbling animated treasure chests, and no sunken ships or pirate skeletons.)

17. When I had fish
I would put pictures behind the tank. My favorite was a picture of space. I figured it kept them from being bored.

18. I often wonder about my fish, too. What the hell do they do all day?
Other than swim? Do they have hobbies? Likes or dislikes?

Mostly, it seems they just wait for me to feed them.

19. No, of course not
They're plotting how to kill you and take over your home. If they ever figure out how to lift the lid on the tank and breathe air, you're toast buddy.

Everybody thinks that fish are just pretty, dumb creatures, but that is only a front. Look them in the eye, they're stone cold killers.
