4. My roomie was playing him the other day
It was his Christmas CD. This time of year she goes bananas over Christmas stuff--not the religious kind but the music, decorations and good cheer stuff.

9. I like his version of There Was an Old Woman Who Swallowed a Fly.
I used to sing that with the kids at my day care center. We loved it. I bought a disc of 26 of his songs just for that. Other good stuff, too, as it turns out. :toast:

27. Vinyl
This luddite only acquired a CD player last year so our CD collection is rather sparse. Our house still plays records and has an eclectic collection that spans more then fifty years (my eleven-year-old son just bought a used Beatle record and is keen on it).

Hey, I have a Burl Ives album, too.

Side one:
On Top of Old Smoky
John Henry
Tailor and the Mouse
Tenor Doodle Doo
Goober Peas
Sweet Betty from Pike
Cowboy's Lament

Side two: features Chad Willis and the Beachstones
Camptown Races
Red River Valley
Lonesome Road
Yellow Rose of Texas
Swing Low Sweet Chariot

Truth be told, this album doesn't get a lot of play. ;)

18. We once had a friend convinced Burl Ives was a major music
player, that he was a writer, record producer the whole thing. We told him that he had written and produced for Prince, and a bunch of groups in the 80's.

We totally had him going and then of course, someone started laughing their asses off and ruined it.

Probably one of those 'you had to be there' moments, but it still makes me laugh thinking about it.

19. Right now I am picturing Burl Ives saying:
"I'd sincerely like to fuck the taste out of your mouth." It's quite refreshing.

26. My grandfather knew him
went to his funeral and everything. He is buried in Southern Illinois (he was born there, too).

Still, we don't listen to that much Burl Ives. You sir, are truly a die-hard fan!
