I did it! The cord is cut and there's no turning back. I told the cable
and satellite companies to kiss my ass! If they want to charge me $40+ bucks a month they're going to have to put something on worth watching.
I'll miss the Daily Show and maybe West Wing (although it has really fallen off since Sorkin left), but everything else I've tried to watch is crap and I ain't paying for it anymore.
I dumped HBO a year and a half ago because the only thing worth watching was Bill Mahr, and I've survived this long. So wish me luck! I've got the video monkey off my back! :bounce: :bounce:

1. "Hello, my name is greyhound1966, and I'm a Cable Addict."
Everyone, all together: "Hello, greyhound1966!"

:hi:

There. Don't you feel much better now, admitting your addiction? Good luck, buddy. :)

9. I only have basic, which only includes CBS, NBC, ABC, PBS, and Faux.
Less than 10 usable channels out of 23. The rest are strange preachers who won't quit ranting about armageddon and won't quit gay bashing and local <yawn> government, if you want to call it that.

2. Why do you hate America?
Commie rat bastard!

Why don't you just move to France if you hate it here so much?

Love it or leave it!

8. Netflix has pissed me off. They're having some issue with their local
distribution center, takes 5 - 8 days to get my next movie, and they won't address it.
If anybody knows a netflix honcho, please tell them the Phoenix management sux.

14. I have had NetFlix for a couple of years now
and I have not had any problems. It's only a 2 day turnaround. But I'm in Georgia with a distribution center very close to me.

16. There's one in phoenix, the closest metro area to me. It's just
typical for here. I have a theory that they were so incompetent that they can't make it at home, so they all moved here. We've got everything from carpenters that can't make a square corner to save their life, plumbers that don't know shit rolls downhill, to accountants that can't count.

7. I downgraded from Digital, HBO, whole nine yards

when I had RoadRunner installed about a year ago. I didn't think I would be watching the tube as much when i had broadband and I was right.

And you are right, there's not much worth watching. I still get about 80 channels but it's usually just crap.

day 3 and I haven't watched the sunday morning shows and I'm not pissed off, so maybe this will be even better than I thought it would.
If you don't watch the mediawhores interviewing the politiwhores, you have less reason to be angry.

12. Your heart will go on ...
I'm waiting for pick-a-channel cable. I'd just go with Comedy Central, the Food Network, and maybe a couple others, for a small monthly fee. It won't happen, though, I'm guessing ...

Not only did I cut the satellite, but we live so far out we can't get broadcast, not that there's anything to watch there.
Still alive and kicking :kick:

18. THanks for posting this. I've been considering GETTING cable.
Edited on Mon Dec-05-05 09:53 AM by raccoon
I use rabbit ears and get NBC, CBS, ETV, and a few religious channels I don't watch.

I'm not much of a TV-watcher anyway so I don't know if it would be cost-effective. Once in a while, A&E or History will have something I wish I could watch...but is it worth the monthly fee?

20. At first it's cool, but since the Big Four bought all the basic cable
channels they don't have the content (it costs money to produce new shows) so after a month or so you've seen all the available episodes so it's always repeats, over, and over, and over...

People get really confused when you tell them you don't have cable.

"But you get CNN, right?"

Nope - just my antenna and ABC, NBC, CBS, UPN, The WB, 3 different PBS stations, and whatever Spanish-language channel carries "Sabato Gigantico". Not bad for FREE. A friend TiVos "Deadwood" for us, so we're all set. The only thing I feel deprived of is the Daily Show and the Phillies (but really, baseball is pretty good on the radio).

As long as I can get all that for free, I refuse to pay $40 to watch a bunch of infomercials, sports we don't care about, "Law and Order" reruns, and celebrity-reality crap.

(edit: Lest we sound too virtuous, we might not feel the same way if we didn't sit on top of a hill in a major metro area and didn't get all the major networks sharp and clear without cable - we do love some of the silliness like "Lost", "Amazing Race", "Boston Legal", "My Name is Earl" and "Everybody Hates Chris".)

22. You'll get what you need with just rabbit ears
I went from having digital cable last year (it was free--it came with my apartment) to only having rabbit ears this year and altho' I miss the Daily Show and Food Network there's no other real difference. I get the basic channels, PBS, and like three Spanish-language channels. Actually I wind up watching the Spanish channels a lot--I'm trying to brush up on my Spanish and their soap operas are so scandalous! :hi:
