I just took a chocolate cake out of the oven.
If this cake turns out OK it will be a miracle.

First, I didn't have enough chocolate squares so i had to sub cocoa for 1 oz of chocolate.

Then, I picked up what I thought was a pint of whole milk at the store, since I only have skim in the house and skim just doesn't get it for baking..
So I measured up the milk, thinking...damn, this is the thickest milk I have ever seen. put down the container and saw''Heavy whipping cream" on the label. So I poured part of the cream back into the container and ;added skim milk to the amount needed to complete the cake.

I never put whipping cream in a cake before, it will be interesting to see how this baby turns out.

Finally, I think the thermostat on my oven is going out as my baking just generally isn't quite up to my personal standards these days. We have plans to replace the stove/oven with a new stove anyway, so just as well, I guess.

This cake is going to a party tonight as part of the dessert table so we will find out how it tastes. I will report back.

I baked a chocolate pound cake last night for the Silent Auction at this party and a Brown Sugar Pound Cake last weekend also for the Silent Auction...they are in the freezer at present.

1. Your baking
experience sounds like how I cook everything, every time I cook!
Seriously, good luck!

2. The cake came out drier than I would have wished. Partly
that is because I baked it in a 9 x 12 pan and it really is a layer cake recipe. And I think I need a new oven.

My daughter really liked it, and told me to quit acting like a judge at the state fair.

The party was fun though, and we raised a bunch of money to use for our projects in 2006.

Thanks for your good luck wish!

4. I have a recipe for ya.
I'll go look it up in a bit; but it involves a bundt pan, sour cream, fudge pudding mix; yellow cake mix and chocolate chips. No icing; dosen't need it. YUM.
