A Snake Bit Dog
Our neighbor in the wilds of South Carolina (The one about a mile down the dirt road)brought his dog to Tricia and me. The small white dog had been struck in the underside by a snake.

I laid the dog belly up on my lap her head resting on my belly. The fangs had entered into the pink hairless belly between her hind nipples. The fang marks were about an inch apart.

With an alcohol-cleaned razor blade I cut into the wound to hopefully drain the poison. Underneath the fang marks there was a large void where I guessed the poison had rotted away the flesh. I cut away all the flesh I could see that looked bad. We cleaned the void with hydrogen peroxide.

The dog never whimpered or struggled while enduring this insult on her body.

When I had finished with her she licked my hand.

2. It was long ago
The wonder of it is the dog (strange to me) she just had to know we were helping her. I had to be hurting her.

Brave little dog. The wound healed completely.

4. It is from
a collection of little happenings in my life.

Collected in 'Voyages of the Vicky Mary'.

Every now and again (Often) when I get bored I use 'Voyages' to bore other people. Sigh.

It is that kind of Saturday.
