Poll question: What is your favorite David Bowie album?
I could only put 10 albums in the poll, so obviously I had to leave out some. If your favorite is not listed here, please reply with your choice.

3. Hunky Dory expanded my sixteen year old mind.
Andy Warhol looks a scream. Great record. Think I'll download it.

10. I second that!
That's a great, under-rated album. Certainly the best of his post-Scary Monsters period, maybe the best, period.

An aside: I went to see him in, I think, '96, at a small venue in Vancouver. He was in town shooting the movie "Exhuming Mr. Rice", and he decided to put on a show. He had his touring band flown-in, and they played this out-door venue pretty-much spontaneously. There was only room for about 1,500 people, so it was like seeing him in a large club. it was hurriedly sponsored by the local "Classic Rock" station.

Anyway, he started the set off with some classic hits (Jean Jeannie and Suffragette City), and the older, "Classic Rock" fans were getting into it. Then he totally switched sounds, and did everything from EarThliNg (which had just been released), and the rest of his set's numbers (Fashion, John I'm Only Dancing, etc), in an EarThliNg style, and lots of people left :wtf: ...I guess they wanted Bowie circa 1976, not the ever-reinventing himself Bowie. But he didn't seem to care... he just played for over two hours, interacted/danced with audience members, kicked giant inflated eyeballs around, and had a great time. It was one of the best "positive energy" shows I've ever seen.

That probably has lots to do with why I like EarThliNg so much.

8. Last week, my husband met him...
Edited on Sat Dec-03-05 11:59 PM by PennyK
My brother-in-law is his business manager...anywhoo, my husband and daughter went onto Manhattan to watch the parade from Bill's office(great location). Some co-workers were also there. Then Bowie, Iman and Lexie (their daughter) walked in from another room. Bowie introduced himself ("Hello, I'm David")...lucky I was home cooking; I would have had trouble maintaining!

12. "Hunky Dory" and honorable mention to "The Idiot" (yeah, I know...
that the latter is an Iggy record, but Bowie worked just as hard on it)

19. that makes two of us
I love that crunchy guitar sound the best, and it has many of my early favorites.

That said, I love the Eno produced sound of Heroes... it's really hard to pick one Bowie phase as an ultimate favorite.

20. No mention to Outside? I think that albums pretty freakin cool
but the best is probably hunky dory, with ziggy a close second, ziggy just has a few songs on there that aren't so great, but hunky dory doesn't have a bad song on the album.
