Is a little brandy poured in a beer called anything & is it acceptable?
Edited on Sat Dec-03-05 11:18 PM by Ouabache
I know and love a little whiskey in a beer. That's a Boilermaker of course. But I bought this airline size bottle of Brandy over at the liquor store cause I had never tried it before. Now I like the way it burns in my chest after a drink of it, but I am not wild about the taste, too much like Scotch, which I REALLY don't care for. I do like a shot of Jim Beam in my beer, so how would this brandy go in there?

1. Never mind, Brandy is distilled from wine
I suppose only an idiot would pour it into a beer.

5. Try something we used to call a "Ruby Charley"
or a "Ruby Charlotte" by a bunch of military miscreants over in Germany decades ago:

Take a liter sized glass of clear wine (Clear beer steins work best but an A&W mug will work). Take a shot glass of any red colored brandy. Carefully set shot glass into larger glass of wine...let it sink to the bottom. Your objective is to wind up with a large glass of clear wine with a shot glass of brandy sitting upright at the bottom.

Next thing is to drink it... There is an interesting flavor mix which occurs with each sip.

I am 51 now, I can not imagine why, but when I was 19 things like this used to fascinate the hell out of me. I drank one of these things...once.... It was tasty but for some reason wine and brandy combos have an adverse affect on my head...

7. Germans I have known come up with crazy shit like that which can be
done with alcohol. I bet you got it from some local German who showed you the trick. They like beer tricks too, like try this sometime.

Take an open bottle full of beer. Bang the bottom of another bottle firmly and squarely on the open mouth of the full bottle.

I probably shouldn't tell you what happens, but be ready, quickly, to drink some foam or have it spill. I learned that from some crazy drunk Germans. I guees it forces extra air into the beer that causes the natural carbonation to go wild?

8. Tasteful Germans do none of these things. Mixiing good beer
with anything else? The horror! I'd have the brandy on the side - if I wanted to drink anything I don't like the taste of at all :)

18. Agreed
I hope that you did not think that "Ruby Charlie" thingy included beer...yuck-ola! I was saying wine and brandy. The intelligent Germans know that their beer is a "good thing" so they are not about to "fix it" by adding anything but a little warmth.

Now that I am 51 I prefer my brandy unflavored and preferably made by Hennessy. I acquired a taste for Hennessy cognac over in Germany when I was 18....it is still quite yummy imo.

15. I learned that trick from a frat boy in Seattle...
Check this out for what happens if you do this with a really cold bottle of beer.

12. I find it interesting that most medications
which warn us not to operate heavy machinery while taking them, are the _very_ medications which make us _want_ to operate heavy machinery while taking them. :tinfoilhat:
