22. But that sort of thing does happen. I think I like to eat chicken so much

because we had three dozen of the vile things when I was a kid, and I was the one who had to go out in the -10 degree winter weather (really that cold, it was in Vermont) to feed them at the crack of dawn every morning.

I was never so happy as a child as the morning I went out there, and all of them were claws-up in the henhouse, having frozen the night before. So every one that I eat is one less one that some kid has to feed.

(Though now my son has a pet chicken, and I have to admit she's a pretty cool bird. I guess we had the wrong breed when I was a kid.)
