I'm not putting a Christmas tree up this year.....
I have a small living room and three cats who love to climb up the tree and knock it down. So, this year I bought a huge wreath---put loads of lights on it---added our favorite ornaments---and hung it on the wall. I found an antique Santa face that hangs in the middle of it. When the lights are on his face glistens. It looks great and my family loves it. So, am I going too far in breaking with tradition?

1. That's a good idea
One year my family didn't put up a Christmas tree because there was so much going on... I got out our ornaments and hung them on my mother's plants. Our relatives thought it was funny when they came over for Christmas dinner.

5. This is the first year we've had one in 4 years.
Last year we moved three days after Christmas and it was just too crazy to try to even decorate or have anything Christmasy going on. The year before I was in my first trimester pregnant with twins, had a 14 month old and my husband was working two jobs. Plus our place way too small. The year before that my first born was so young I couldn't deal with a tree. The year before that I had a miscarriage the day after Thanksgiving.
So, this is the first year we are finally back to having a kind of normal Christmas. Except that we have moved out of state and won't be around any family or anything. We have a damn tree though and all our decorations are up!!!

I think your wreath with the santa face sounds great :-)

6. I refused to put one up last year...
everyone's there to put it up and decorate it, but I'm always the one to take the ornaments/lights off and take the tree down in January, and I find that a very depressing job-so last year, I boycotted.

I put all my houseplants together, strung lights on them, added my fiber optic faux tree and called it the "Christmas Grove". I think it worked out just fine!

7. Only if it bothers you.
Tradtions are what you make them and are constantly evolving and being remade over time. Sounds like you are just starting a new tradition!

9. That's funny! We usually put the tree up for the cats.
They love to charge it and hide in it and play with all the stuff on it.

I'm not putting a tree up this year until I hear Katrina survivors are attended to. Just can't.
