What are you listening to?
I'm commemorating the anniversary of the death of Edward Benjamin Britten O.M., Baron of Aldeburgh. 22 November 1913 - 4 December 1976. The greatest English composer since Henry Purcell. By happy co-incidence/providence born on St. Cecilia's Day (she is the Patroness of music), and died on this day in 1976.

Unfortunately I don't have any of his music on M.P.3 here - but I've got the incredibly haunting sound of Cantus in Memory of Benjamin Britten, for strings and bell, by Arvo Pärt.

Requiescat in pace.

3. Rain on the roof.
It's a hard rain a-fallin' in the NC mountains tonight! It is as soporific as the best sleeping pill.

4. "Idiot" by Lisa Marie Presley. It's so awful that it's awesome!

"I heard the thing that you hate about me almost everyday, but you still wouldn't leave
I had to pull the plug
Ooh, I hated your guts
And I heard the opposite of love isn't hate
It's indifference, But I can't relate
It's not good enough
Cuz I hate your guts"

That's the verse that just played. OMG it'd never win a songwriting contest, but I love it anyway! It would be the best karaoke song ever!

7. Again, Stacie Rose
Edited on Wed Dec-07-05 05:23 PM by mvd
She's a lock for my top albums of the year.

Also:

Lindsay Lohan's A Little More Personal (RAW) at full album listening party. It sounds more honest than Ashlee Simpson's new CD, hence the much higher grade. But she doesn't really have the vocals to pull off some of these songs - plus there's the consistency problem again. I bought "I Live For The Day" off of iTunes, and I'd do the same if I were you - buy what you like from it. A C+ grade for A Little More Personal, vs B- for Speak.

Shakira's Oral Fixation Volume 2 - I like this one. Some songs show a lack of ideas (mimics Cindi Lauper on "Timor" and Petula Clark on "Hey You." Uses Santana on a song and sounds like Alanis on "Don't Bother.") It's worth purchasing, though. "Dreams For Plans" is A/C done right, and there are a few other very high points. A B grade.
