Coffee maker question.........
I'm thinking of kicking my current coffee maker to the curb. I inherited an auto-drip jobber and lately it has been producing consistently bitter, stinky brew, despite using several different grades of coffee (using Seattle's Best French Roast now) and filters. The smell and bad taste even persist after running white vinegar through it twice.

Can I destinkify this thing or do I send it to meet the "Great Mr. Coffee in the Sky"?

2. Have you cleaned it by running it with a half and half solution
of vinegar and water?

6. Can't use 'em.........
this maker uses the cone shaped filters.

Oh well, I guess I was looking for a reason to put this thing out of my misery anyway. Maybe I should take it hunting. You know: "Two go out, but only one comes back."

something could have happened to your water without you realizing it.

7. Maybe..........
AFAIK, the city hasn't messed with the H20, but you never know. I'll try making the next batch with the spring water I normally drink and see if that helps.

Good idea!

8. Stuff called CLR *might* do what vinegar can't.
It's especially good if you have hard water.

9. Aside from not being able to make coffee with one of those,
you might check the temperature. It may have an adjustment.

Also, a GOOD grinder is the single most important factor in brewing good coffee. The proper grind size, and a consistent size throughout, are really important.

I know this all sounds so serious. But good coffee is not as easy to do as the old fifties male dominated tv shows would have one believe.

I'm a coffee crazy. I spent years concocting my own custom means of making coffee. Temperature is critical. After 20 years, I finally got consistently good coffee.

Recently I dropped a rather large wad of cash on a grinder and an espresso machine. Now I have great coffee. But that was yet another learning curve. I almost tossed it all, but finally got it under control.

Temp and grind. Good luck.

10. Whatever you do, do not get a Cuisinart coffee maker.
Mt dear mother-in-law gave me one last Christmas. It has a built-in grinder. It is a P.O.S. and a pain-in-the-arse. And I know it was expensive. Damn, I wish I had taken it back and gotten a basic coffee maker and pocketed the change!

12. Get a Bunn..and get good coffee.
I love my Bunn. I buy my coffee from Zingerman's.com. They have all kinds of different blends and MAN! does the right coffee make all the difference! I used to drink just Folgers but no more.
