Have you ever traveled to another country?

If so, where and why?

Well, I am not going to count Canada, because I grew up in MT less than an hour away. That's too easy.

So I went to Bulgaria in 1993. I was chosen to go on a cultural exchange wrestling trip. I liked it a lot. I was homesick though, and I had a injured shoulder -chronically dislocating - so I didn't enjoy it as much as I could have. It was fun and interesting though. I would like to go back again and check it out. Rick Steves had a good show on Bulgaria and he had some awesome travel tips, I wouldn't mind doing some of the things he did there.

Lots of places I'd love to travel to. Too many to count. That is if Bush doesn't make Americans so unwelcome around the world that we can't go anywhere. :)

Nothing beats world travel

It's entirely possible we traded beads or animal hides at some point.

In MT, I am from Cut Bank. Actually, I am from the Blackfeet Indian Reservation, but CB is the closest town.

In WA, I lived in Marysville for a year and a half when I was in 7th and 8th grade. Then I lived in Seattle for two years when I went to college there from Fall '99 to Fall '01.

Mexico, Canada, Germany, Austria, Lichtenstein, Italy, BVI . . . and the US, which is also "another country." :shrug:

I liked it better when they each had their own currency and I had to make decisions on what to buy in each country and when/where to exchange money. Infrequently someone at a store, or maybe a local tour guide, would try to rip me off on the exchange rate, and I called them on it. On the two most blatant occasions I threatened to report them to the police if they didn't reverse the rip off and give me a bargain. Worked both times.

But Europeans in general are incredibly friendly and helpful. I'd love to go back soon.

I've got a lot of catching up to do.

I live pretty close to Mexico now, for about 4 years and have never been down there. Weird, huh?

but that's ... cool. We live in central Texas now ... lived in WA for about 3 years.

I can tell you where I want to go: Ireland, Scotland, France, Greece ...

I won't tell you where it has been suggested that I go.

One could argue also Scotland and Wales (in that I've been to them, but it is arguable whether they are actually 'other countries' or not).

There's a big list of other countries - the big 2 being Russia and India.

I grew up mentally while I was there . When I went there I was 19 years old , and when I came back to the United States , I was 23 about to turn 24 . It was 6 months from June 2000 to December 2000 . And I was there the majority of the time from March 2001 to May 2004 . I call Germany " mein zweite Heimat " ( my second home ) .

It was my first time out of the U.S., and I loved it.

I want to move to Canada someday. :)

Canada has been my main escape route from U.S.A. My mom used to take us up every summer for the duration to the family farm, so Dad would drive the nearly 1000 miles up to Cape Breton twice. He would join us the last two weeks of August. Just a simple border crossing for us.

Outside the continental North America, went to U.K. in 1992 with Mom. We spent 20 days in England, Scotland and Ireland. We did our version of "If It's Tuesday, This Must Be Belgium" there, doing a loop through England and Scotland, and then crossing over on the ferry to Dublin/Dun Laoghaire for four more days. It was hectic, but we saw a lot. We had bought passes for Britrail which was great, because we could hop on any train at any time, making our schedule flexible. We did have an itinerary, though, and it was remarkably easy to keep to it for the most part.

I think the worst part was the long, long walk at Heathrow heading home. Damn, if it didn't seem like we were walking more than a mile to the gate! That part I wouldn't be able to do anymore.

Alcapuco and Mexico City, London, Paris, Barbados, Nassau, Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands, Scotland, Ireland. I think that just about covers it.

And Mexico--but that's because we were spending a week in Arizona and spent a couple of days just a bit over the border. :)
