Poll question: Please help me settle this:
Who is responsible for the late payment of a utility bill that was moved from the desk where such bills are usually kept and placed under a bed so that said desk would not look cluttered when house guests visited? Please note that this poll is gender specific.

1. Huh?
How is this even a question? If someone moved it, they took responsibility for it, IMO.

2. Tangent question--what happens if you pay the bill a few weeks late?
Edited on Mon Dec-05-05 06:19 PM by tjdee
I'm considering bumping back my electric bill if I can--I'm going to call them tomorrow. Just curious if anyone's done that without getting their lights shut off :scared:. I'm current, but I always freak about that, even when I've paid the bill.

I voted for 'the person who put it under the bed--I am a female'.

Why the hell would you put it under the bed? And if it's your job to pay it, you should know gee, the utility bill has to get paid. But it can be hard to remember if the bill isn't where it should be.

It's really a breakdown on both parts so I agree with khashka that the person who pays it should pay it...and the bed person should pay the late fee and get made fun off.

6. I've done that LOTS of times.
I was a regular player of "utility bill bingo". Call them and let them know what you'd like to do. If it's current, they should be willing to accommodate you without any extra charges.

8. No late fee that I know of. It doesn't help that I have a past
history of being late with this bill because one month it is due the 19th, the next month the 28th, the next month the 22nd etc. No rhyme or reason to it.

I went under the bed because my wife watches too many home "stagings" on cable TV.

She doesn't take kindly to being made fun of, and anyway there is no one here to see it except the cat.

3. Does gender really matter?
Whoever is responsible for the bill should pay it. Whoever hid the bill so the payee couldn't pay it or didn't know about it owes the late charges. Where does gender come into it?

Responsibility depends on your genitals? I don't think so.

Khash.

9. Judging from the responses, it doesn't. This is not, apparently,
a case of female reasoning, but of my wife's reasoning. Shame on me for generalizing, but it's not like I invaded Iraq or something.

4. The payer is responsible.
Even if the bill was moved, the person responsible for paying it should have known that the bill would be coming due. My wife is infamous for sticking mail in odd places, so every month I have to go hunting for the bills that haven't been paid yet. The payer should know which bills are due, and should notice when bills are missing.

7. You HAVE met my wife. Bought her argument hook, line and
sinker too. I'm thinking you have been married a while, happily.
