Damnit, where is this "Cat 2" Snowstorm that is suppose to hit

I'm in the Cat2 section of the map. I really want to be able to stay up late to watch the football game because I've already told my boss if the snow is bad I'm doing my reports from home.

1. Since when do they rate snow storms like that?
I grew up in matter of life and death blizzards in Colorado, and never have I heard someone refer to a snow storm like that.

Is this some Katrina holdover shit? Are they trying to make give winter weather some of the sex appeal of hurricane season by making it sound more EXTREME?

:wtf:

5. NBC 10 is notorious for sensationalizing the weather
be thankful John Bolaris has gone to NY otherwise he would be predicting 30 feet of snow. It's coming down pretty hard in south Jersey. All I know that when I looked out the window at 6 it wasn't snowing and then when I went to go home at 6:30 there was a quarter of an inch of snow on my car.

Here's hoping classes are canceled tomorrow.

BTW the game tonight should be crazy. I love watching the NFL in the snow

4. I thought the same thing.
I don't think there are actual, meteorological categories like that for snowstorms, are there? Looks like sensationalism to me, too. Snowstorms just don't rate enough on the disaster scale for such foolishness. Really big snowstorms can do some damage and bring life to a standstill, but they're still nothing compared to the devastation a big hurricane wreaks on a community. For most people, a snowstorm is rarely more than an inconvenience. It's ridiculous.

6. Snowstorms can be a bummer if you're not dressed for it...
And it seems like every year a good number of people freeze to death stuck in their cars.

For most people, though, it's just a good excuse to build a fire and drink hot chocolate and peppermint schnapps.

7. Oh, I know.
I'm speaking comparitavely, of course. I would take a snowstorm over a cat 4 hurricane any day, because it's much easier to prepare for and protect yourself from. And it usually doesn't take years and billions of dollars to recover from a snowstorm. Communities as a whole are far less affected.

9. Reading my post,
it looks like I'm rather callous towards victims of major snow storms, and that I was making light of what they go through. I've lived through a couple of very big ones with 12+ snow, one in Michigan, and one in Maryland. They're especially bad when they hit areas that aren't used to regular, heavy snowfall. I didn't mean to minimize what people who are going to be hit with this major snow storm are going through.

Thinking about it some more, I look at the coverage a little differently, now. If the "Cat 4" stuff scares people into taking the proper precautions, then it's worth the seemingly overhyped coverage, as long as it isn't overdone to the point where everyone ignores it.

11. I'll agree
When we had our big blizzard a couple of years ago, they didn't call it a 'Cat anything'. It was just 52 inches of wet, spring snow that happened in about 36 hours.

Personally, I called it just a shit-load of snow.

I *need* to go to work tomorrow.

Just....ugh!

on edit, not ugh to you, but ugh to Hurrican Schwartz. :(

It's not supposed to *really* start until late tonight, that's what I heard. And stop around 7 am.

10. I am not that far from Wilmington
and the snow started at 2 here. There is about an inch on the deck railing though right now it is stopped. And looking at that map another reason I watch Baltimore news instead PA. Figure neither MD or PA news/weather ever seems to know what our weather will be so we will either have hardly anything or get slammed.
