de-icing this morning was rough... then I got some good news.
my ten year old Mazda's engine just started idling way to fast while it is cold - and simultaneously the thermostat just went wacky (swings all over the place), so when there was a sheet of uncrackable solid ice on the car this morning - running the car to help it start deicing wasn't an option.

I was out for fifteen minutes and in to defrost/thaw about twenty, then back out... each time getting another patch of viewable window.

The Prius I ordered in October is supposed to get in to the dealer (an hour away) by the end of the week. The whole time I am scraping I am cursing not getting the garage door opener fixed, yet (was going to have it installed before getting the new car - all be the end of the week) and cursing the timing.

I finally hang in there longer than the fifteen minute splits to just get the deicing done. My fingers were freezing through the gloves (did I say that it was sixteen degrees with some windchill making it colder?). THen the cell phone rings. The new car has just been delivered...

So now, eight hours later... I am driving this:

WooHoo!

4. This is my first new car
have had several small, gas efficient used cars - and they each lasted for years. Go for it - for a good price - I bet it will be a prize!

I plan on driving this new baby... into the ground!

5. was going for a 2005 - but too late, so a few bucks more
I have a 2006... with a few new whistles... like - get this - a rear window cam that goes on when in reverse... and it lights up at night! How cool is that?! This is my first new car (I have always bought practical/used) - so I am a tad bit giddy :D

3. That's purty. Is yours red too?
I can't afford a new car.

I'm looking for a good late model Honda CR-V or Pilot. There is also a Landrover Discovery for sale on Craigslist that is tempting.

7. I can't believe I got a red car...
have never gone for red... but it was just too snazzy in the red. This is the first time ever I could buy a new car - always got used - and drove them for years. The CR-Vs are cool, and pretty fuel efficient - nice combo. Not familiar with the others (being a small car sorta gal) - but am sure that what you go with will satisfy you and give you the thrill that I am experiencing this evening :D

6. Wow. Shiny new toy!
:bounce:

Can I drive it? Can I? Huh? Soo cute. I hope it grips icy roads well. I'm kinda wondering about that. Small cars and bad weather are no fun for me.

8. if it isn't too expensive - am going to fix the Mazda
(bigger) and keep it for this first winter (for sleety weather) until I get used to the lightness of the Prius.

9. Congrats!
I bought a TDI for the mileage because I didn't want to wait/couldn't really afford a hybrid and now I'm beginning to wonder if I shouldn't have waited with diesel not coming down like gas...anyway, enjoy!

11. TDI = Jetta?
My mother was so close to getting one - she was debating it or a prius back in 2001 - and went with the Jetta... and then the dealership kept messing up getting the car to the lot (we have it... oops it went to another dealership...) - so she changed her mind and got the 2002 Prius. I fell in love with hers - and have been saving for several years... I have to admit that at the time I was pulling for the Jetta - it is such a GREAT drive... My prius is fun to drive - and it handles well - but the Jetta handled curves fabulously. Enjoy it!

Does it come with bean bag seats? :P

I do not miss ice and snow. x( Dangerous conditions! Was glad to read nothing happened beyond the de-icing.

12. ironically the roads were fine. The ground was too warm
for it to stick for long - but to metal and glass on cars... grrrr.

The salinmobile... woohoo... I love it!

No beanbag seats :-( But if you make it to this area - you can sit right up front in the passengers seat (I get to drive! :D )

25. 120 K - very cool
retiring my oldie at 105K I didn't always take as good care (oil change in time) as I should have. It is a badge of honor to keep a car well past the 110K mark. Good job

32. Now that is a car...
you do a little bit of driving, dontcha? Now that I only do a weekend commute - my annual mileage has droppeed significantly. Add working WAY too many hours, with little time off - and road trips have dropped off the radar :-(

A trip to Cali... how fun! NoCal or SoCal (mind you I am partial to NoCal ...)

I wish Infiniti still made a little 4 cylinder car. I'd buy another one in a heartbeat.

21. its the 2006...
I only test drove a 2004 - so I am not sure of what specific changes are in this one from 2005 - except the reverse backup cam (that's new :D ) It is a new red - a little brighter... I was going for the old red (more brick)... but like this new one - though it is rather... red (never imagined driving a red car...) Yea!

Thanks :D

22. Cool on the backup cam!
I have a 2005 - love it!

Quick tip - learn to "feather" the gas pedal. Helps increase the mileage.

Enjoy!

24. I learned the "feather" on my mother's 2002
(now, after an accident replaced with a 2003 - she wanted the same model - and not to have to learn all the really cool new electronics) - but still have to learn the right techniques with *this* car. Got 46 mpg driving it home and around the city (about 100 miles city and highway). Thanks for the link... I have heard that we prius owners get rather crazy in sharing our tips for getting even more bang for the mile - while I have heard of such a site - hadn't found it.

Can I admit that what hooked me on my Mom's prius - was that fuel usage chart (the five minute splits graphing of gas consumption) - its like driving a video game!

As I get going with this - I hope I can turn to you with questions - I can not remember being quite so psyched when getting a car. Add to that it is the first time I have bought a new (not used) car.

I bought a new Camry in August and I looooove it! Best car I've ever driven! And guess what? Mine's red, too! Gonna have to meet up again sometime to admire each other's vehicles. :hi:

29. we HAVE to do another gathering.
I drove to corollas in the eighties and early nineties - one was great - one was a lemon (there were two years in the late eighties were the corollas had some real problems)... so this is a homecoming. Congrats on the Camry, those are so upscale... bet it feels a bit luxurious each time you drive it - a treat that you so deserve!

Btw how is the little cutie wakemeup doing?

But she is still her usual bouncy self, regardless. At least she was until she fell asleep. She misses her Daddy a lot, but we get to see him on webcam a lot now and he gets to call pretty frequently. Only 6-7 more months until he is home!!! :D
