Packer GM Ted Thompson: Favre is playing "playing as well as ever".

Brett Favre should be the least of the Green Bay Packers' problems. On Sunday, the problem was Favre.

(snip)

Favre's awful showing ruined a stingy effort by the defense and a surprising 100-yard rushing game against the National Football League's top-ranked defense. Despite their status as a 7-point underdog, the Packers were in position to pull one of the bigger upsets in the Mike Sherman era but were dragged down by their quarterback.

(snip)

Favre, 36, hasn't generated a come-from-behind victory since Christmas Eve a year ago at Minnesota. Despite their 2-10 record, the Packers have had a multitude of chances to pull out games at the end but the integral man in the equation, the quarterback, hasn't been up to the challenge.

General manager Ted Thompson insisted afterward that Favre was not losing it late in what is his 15th season. A few weeks ago, Favre said he thought he was playing as well as ever.

Does anyone have a clue bat? I need to severely smack Ted Thompson upside the head with one.

Let this be a lesson to us Wisconsinites: Never trust a person named Thompson to run things. I thought that we had already learned this lesson before, but it seems we haven't.

6. Thompson is on a mission: Dump Sherman, but keep Favre
Too much bad blood having the former GM as head coach

7. For those of you who don't get the last line...
We had a Republican Governor named Tommy Thompson for 14 years. We're still cleaning up the mess he made.

8. Favre didn't play that bad a game
The Packers managed to move the ball pretty well against the Bears. Dado runs well, but is prone to fumble. Favre looked good on the slants. He still has a gun. He still makes some bad decisons, but that's a hallmark of his. He manages to overcome those mistakes. Yes, he threw two interceptions. The one Tillman ran 90+ yards was not really his fault. He got pessured big time and tried to throw it out of the endzone, but got hit while tossing it, and ended up throwing it a tad too short. No one would be questioning Favre if he hit the man behind Tillman. He's still got it. Also, the Packers are not a bad team. They are certainly not as bad as their record suggests. They have a damned good defense. They also have some key guys missing. After Franks went down, Driver was Favre's only target. I wouldn't write off Favre just yet. In fact, I'd trade all of the Bears QB's for Favre in a heartbeat.

9. Favre is not the problem
He has no one to go basically but Driver, who gets double and triple covered. He's the one that has to "make" things happen. Therefore, you will get interceptions as he has had to "force" things at times. Its nothing new. Its just more now because alot of the good players are out. It really doesn't matter anymore this season anyway! He will be back playing next year I'm sure. The Packers just need some good high quality players in the game other than just Brett and maybe a couple others. Just my opinion.
