I am so @#$#% tired of acting like an adult!
Edited on Tue Dec-06-05 12:15 AM by Writer

What is this crappin' bidness of having to straighten your back and behave "professionally" when you're talking, not only to your boss, but to the waitress at your local Chili's?

Why must we be so @#$^ officious to conduct ourselves in society? It's archaic behavior from the time of lords and ladies.

I say f--- it. Be yourself, even if "yourself" isn't so uppity. Also, why must there be only one version of what an "adult" must act like? I have met many an "adult" who conduct their business illegally and stake vengeance on their enemies like spoiled little children.

What is an ADULT anyway?

Well, I don't hate my parents
I don't get drunk just to spite them
I've got my own reasons to drink now
Think I'll call my dad up and invite him
I can sleep in till noon anytime I want
Though there's not many days that I do
Gotta get up and take on that world
When your an adult it's no cliche it's the truth

'Cause I'm an adult now
I'm an adult now
I've got the problems of an adult
On my head and on my shoulders
I'm an adult now

I can't even look at young girls anymore
People will think I'm some kind of pervert
Adult sex is either boring or dirty
Young people they can get away with murder
I don't write songs about girls anymore
I have to write songs about women
No more boy meets girl boy loses girl
More like man tries to figure out what the hell went wrong
I can't take any more illicit drugs
I can't afford any artificial joy
I'd sure look like a fool dead in a ditch somewhere
With a mind full of chemicals
Like some cheese-eating high school boy
Sometimes my head hurts and sometimes my stomach hurts
And I guess it won't be long
Till I'm sitting in a room with a bunch
of people whose necks and backs are aching
Whose sight and hearing's failing
Who just can't seem to get it up
Speaking of hearing, I can't take too much loud music
I mean I like to play it, but I sure don't like the racket
Noise, but I can't hear anything
Just guitars screaming, screaming, screaming
Some guy screaming in a leather jacket
Wooah!

No matter how old I get, I still often feel like a teenager pretending to be an adult.

if I could come out of her office zipping my pants.

She thought it was damn funny.

I try to never ever take myself too seriously.

5. I think I'm pretty much "myself" in public;
which typically leads to most people either being very chatty and friendly with me, or getting nervous and withdrawn. I'm nice and outgoing. I don't think there's any reason to refrain from a little kindness and humor- I've had plenty of days where a stranger making me laugh was much appreciated.

16. Well then maybe I should have taken you seriously
Since you said I was uppity and you don't really know me, hmm?

Or maybe we can both concede that the internet is a tricky place to determine one's level of seriousness, since we don't have tools like body language, vocal tone, and inflection at our disposal...

17. I never said that you are anyone else's emotions were uppity.
And if I saw your body language now, I think "alpha girl/boy" would come to mind.

Go find someone else to pick on. There are plenty of threads with victims waiting for you.

If you re-read your post #8, you'll see that it says "You @#$% goody two-shoes. Uppity? You REDEFINE uppity!"

I'm sorry if you've truly misperceived my posts as picking on you. That was certainly not the intent behind them. But even one as perfect as you must admit now that it's difficult to determine whether either of us is teasing, wouldn't you say?

So maybe those little :sarcasm: smilies have a use after all, nay?

19. How do you want to talk to the waitress at Chili's?
I'm not so sure I understand the issue. I make no effort to be anyone but myself with either my boss or the waitress at Chili's. What I do make an effort to do is not embarass or belittle anyone which I hope people will do when they speak to me.

23. One reason for politeness in an urban environment especially
is that there is so much contact and so much potential for hostility that the old adage "A soft answer turneth away wrath" is an excellent psychological defense mechanism and keeps society running smoothly. It does not imply servility or innate indifference.

26. And that one version of adult is bullshit snobbery
if you ask me. Excellent rant. I enjoy knowing that I am not the only one who hates the idea of faking it and putting on airs and acting. I guess it's why I love shows like Becker and House M.D. Those two doctors have zero bedside manner, but I'd prefer them over a doctor who dispenses fake niceties any day. They are better doctor for being honest.

I say we shed the fakery and be ourselves. It's time to end this obnoxious hoop jumping scheme and take back our species from the ones who think it is better to stab you in the back while smiling at you to your face.

Mmph. Fuck 'em. Le'ss pah-tee.
