36. He was on the counter (he is a very badly behaved kitty) and a cat bomb*
Edited on Tue Dec-06-05 12:50 PM by bertha katzenengel
went off. He was startled off the counter, and when he went he knocked off a glass, which broke, and while he was scampering he stepped on the glass. He had a 1-1/2-inch gash on the long part of his back foot. Pobrecita!

He kneads on just about anything that's soft. His favorite is my thighs when I'm sitting in my chair. :loveya: His next favorite is plush things like that play glove -- but we can't keep those things around the house because one of the other cats has a peeing problem, and plush is his favorite target. :(

By the way: he cut his foot nearly two years ago, and he's still shaking it to try to get rid of the bandage.

*cat bomb: when a cat sneezes or is startled or when there's a loud noise and it sets off a chain reaction of all the cats in the house scattering instantly for cover.

49. That's how it is with Daddy -- he's not the pee-er, but
he is VERY badly behaved! He came to us as a stray, and it's clear his former people taught him some very bad habits. The worst is: he has to have whatver food you are eating RIGHT NOW. :eyes:

43. I had to wait until I was 40 to get my horse!
Edited on Tue Dec-06-05 01:05 PM by CottonBear
My orthopaedic surgeon dad would not buy me one. He could have afforded to but I don't think my mom wanted me to have one, even though she had two horses as a child. Oh, the unfairness! :(

In any case, I took English hunter-jumper lessons as an adult (I rode friend's horses as a kid). I eventually leased a horse at a fancy show barn and then I met a couple who breed horses. I learned all about caring for horses (one of the breeders is a retired vet professor!) and I felt ready to own one, at last!

I saved up my money and bought Cotton as a 6 month old weanling foal. :) Oh happy day! She lives at the farm and I do farm and barn chores (like feeding 22 horses by myself) about 5 days a week (in addition to my full-time career) in exchange for board and feed! Affordable horse keeping!

Horses are expensive! On the other hand, it will keep your daughter away from boys especially if she rides English! Happy trails to her from another horse crazy girl! :hi:

45. Maybe I will tell her she has to wait until she can afford to
buy her own, or at least work in exchange for boarding.

She takes english jumping lessons once a week, and of course the instructors are pushing for 3-4 times a week. Plus, now that the weather has changed, I am opting out for the winter. I don't want to stand in that ring while she gets the exercise and I freeze.

I rode all through high school - 4 times a week - so I suppose I will give in soon enough.

48. Perhaps she can do barn work, intern with a trainer or learn to braid.
Braiders make about $25-$35 per horses here in NE GA.
3-4 times a week lessons = expensive! I'm sure that lessons are much more expensive where you live. Good luck! Remember, English riding is a boy-free hobby! Maybe she could lease or half-lease a horse. That is a good way to ride a nice quality horse.

50. hmmm...maybe when she is a little older
She is only 6 right now, and she is responsible for all the grooming and tacking up her horse when she goes for her lesson. She rides a nice little pony at the barn now but at $35-55 a pop for each lesson (depends on how many you buy up front) it is really going to have to be a once a week thing for now.

I am glad the winter is here...my wallet needs a break!

The Red Doxies have the best personality in my opinion. Sable our dapple is cute, but she needs a lot of attention. When we first got Scooter he was always chasing the cats, now he sleeps with the cat. here's a great picture of Scooter and Shuggy. We call him "insano dog" in this picture.

That is so funny.

My great aunt had a chicken for a pet back in the old country. She fed it so much that it split open and my great-grandfather sewed her back up. The cook always wanted to make the chicken, but Tia Olga slept with the darn thing.

That is great!

139. Is your family from Malta, as your screen name suggests?
I've always found that a fascinating island (though I've never been there); from what I understand, the experts can't even figure out how old civilization is on that island, because it's so much older than anything else they've seen (in Europe, anyway).

So: Are you Maltese? If so, how's it feel?
