Doc recalls fight to save Lennon

'No way of repairing that damage'

By JULIAN KESNER
DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITER

The ER doctor who valiantly tried to save John Lennon's life believes that despite medical advances in the last quarter century, the ex-Beatle's gunshot injuries would still be untreatable today.
"There was no way of repairing that damage then and, to my knowledge, there's no way to repair that amount of damage today," Dr. Stephan Lynn told the Daily News yesterday - two days before the 25th anniversary of the musician's murder.

.....

In a sitdown with the News, Lynn recalled having to break the news of Lennon's death to Yoko Ono at Roosevelt Hospital - and then the world.

"There was a time she was lying on the floor, literally pounding her head against the concrete, during which I was concerned I was going to have a second patient," said the doctor.

1. If the shooter had just aimed a couple feet to the left...
If the shooter of John Lennon had justed aimed a couple feet to the left instead, he would still be considered an international hero.

2. That's cold.
I'm no fan of Yoko, but that was mean.

5. Hard to believe people still fulminate against Yoko...
For all the grief that Yoko has gotten over the years - supposedly breaking up the Beatles, pushing John off into avant-garde weirdness, etc - I think Lennon was exactly where he wanted to be with her. After all, he was a one-time art student, so while John and Yoko's union might not have been an accessibile musical bonanza for us, I think those two were well-suited to each other.

Anyway, I've always been intrigued by her work and I, for one, I'm glad she's still around.
