For you gamers out there
I'm playing the F.E.A.R. demo and it seems like an awesome game with excellent graphics. Oh and it is freaky as hell. I'll see if I can get a screenshot later on.

P.S. I'm posting this here because the gaming forum seems rather dead. Perhaps they are all gaming. ;)

1. Here are some slightly compressed screens (dial-up warning)

Cool lighting and nice textures.

This screen caught some particle lighting as I was mowing down some meanies.

2. I recently got a new computer
And downloaded that very same demo to test out my graphics capabilities.

Holy moly!!!

I wasn't really aware that home PC graphics had come along that far. I guess I should get a new computer more frequently than every 5 years or so...

3. What are your hardware specs & resolution?
Does it lag? 'Cause it looks awesome.

4. Specs
AMD Athy 64 FX-55, Two Nvidia GeForce 6800 GTs running in SLI mode on a Asus A8N SLI Deluxe Mobo with 2048 of PC3200 Muskin Memory and two 36GB Western Digital Raptors running in RAID O mode.

As far as the lag, I couldn't tell you. I live in an area that has no access to land based broadband. I have to use a wireless ISP that gives me okay download speeds but my uploads are not that great so I would get lag in any multiplater game.

The screens above were taken at 16X12 32bit.

6. Righteous Rig!
I have about another year before I upgrade. I'm jealous!

8. Thanks.
My philosophy has always been to spend as much I can with computers so that they are no obsolete before turning it on. I've had this one about a year now.

10. Nice rig
And I thought I was the only gamer on the DU.

On a side note-- Is running two video cards on pci-express worth it? I was thinking of splurging.

What do you think?

14. I love SLI
At the beginning it was sort of rough getting decent drivers but now things are wonderful. I can run all games at 1600X1200 at full or medium details depending on the game. HL2, Doom3, Far Cry and Falcon 4 Allied Force, I run at 1600X1200 as well. If you have the correct PCI-E mobo and the money, do it. One caveat though, make sure you have a fast CPU or it will just be a bottleneck holding all the info that the two vid cards send to it.

12. Sweet Jesus
I have an AMD 64, and had to upgrade my card to a GT just to run this game.

You built it, didn't ya?

7. I'm installing it tonight
I've had it for over a month but I was playing other things and just wasn't in the mood. I already decided tonight's the night I do it. The demo was pretty good, though I wish it ran a bit smoother.

9. I run the game at 1600X1200
but most of the effects are at medium to maintain a decent frame rate. With what you have, you should be able to run it quite nicely.

11. I've been playing it for a couple weeks now.
I like it a lot. However...to play, your rig MUST be pretty serious. I had to upgrade my video card, and I was running Far Cry at almost top level with no problems. FEAR had to be run in what might as well have been Atari 2600 graphics mode to even work on mine.

16. So did you get it running now?
It is one seriously creepy game. I have to sneak away just to play it because I don't want my kids to see it.
