1. There sure are. I have about 3 of them on my back right now.
Long story, but I got myself in the hole because I had to borrow from bank credit cards to bail my son out of jail. He promised to help me pay them back, but so far he hasn't. And now I have a slew of collection agencies calling me. I am paying them off one by one.

3. I mean, if you're overdrawn .....
Which I guess is the same, right?

There's this weird guy who's left me voicemail--never says where he's from, mispronounces my name...today he marked his message "urgent" and I deleted it by accident.

I am overdrawn at a bank I used to use...it was so long ago...wonder if it's for that. I'm getting ready to try to file for bankruptcy and am going to talk to the lawyer about it, just curious if anyone knew.

Long winded way of saying thank for the post! I know how easy it is to get yourself in a hole, good luck.
You're a caring parent to get your son out instead of letting him sit there.

4. So if I'm overdrawn, that's where it'd go then?

5. Yes. If you were severely overdrawn. If it was a small amount, odds
are they would take the loss, and report you to check plus, which is an agency that keeps track of bad account holders in the event you sign up at a new bank. :hi:

6. A few more questions, if you've got the time....
Edited on Fri Dec-09-05 09:01 PM by tjdee
What constitutes a "small amount"? Less than 1000? Less than 100?

Would a new bank then refuse to take me on? Would it depend? Would I ever be in good standing with a bank again?

Would the old bank be able to take their money out of a new bank, like a levy sort of thing?

Would check plus call me and try to collect?

Whew, sorry for the question diarrhea. I appreciate anything you want to say on that.

One last one, if you know--would I be able to put that amount into a bankruptcy filing, or is that similar to student loans (not forgiven)?

7. sure, I'm looking for any excuse not to do christmas cards.
A small amount for the bank I worked at (Huntington) was usually less than $500. It would depend if a new bank would take you on. They call check plus for account holder information. If this is your only nick and you haven't just walked in with 20 sacks of gold coins, and your original overdraft was not large, they'd probably take the gamble. The old bank will not spend the money (again, unless it's a huge amount...and you would know by now that you were in trouble) to pursue a levy. check plus is only an information clearing house for account information. I am not sure if you could put that amount on a bankruptcy filing because bouncing checks is basically fraudulent activity...and against the law...even though, again for small amounts, most banks don't pursue it that way. :hi: don't worry, I'm sure you're fine.

8. Thanks....I'm not so sure though.

There is a couple hundred involved (and much of that is bank fees)--so I'm a bit concerned, though it's been about a year. I might not know I'm in trouble, because I moved--though, I get my mail and I've not gotten anything from them except a few weeks ago they sent me a privacy notice (the same one I've gotten from my current bank).

I don't think they have my new address, though they do have the new number. And no one's called....but now this creepy guy has started calling me (he doesn't say where he's from, he leaves voicemail while I'm at work).

I never thought of being overdrawn as committing fraud! :scared: Maybe I'll call them Monday to see if I can set something up.

Thanks for answering all the questions....

9. I would be less concerned because most of it is bank fees.
I would bet money on it that they're not the ones contacting you. :hi: don't worry.

10. Thank you...
I'm becoming very paranoid about everyone suing me, LOL (well, not LOL  ). And since I just started being paranoid about it, in the back of my mind I think it's because I now have reason to.

I probably don't.

My hope is by the end of the year to be done with all this ridiculousness. Thanks again!
