He told her, "I won't be able to promise you much. I can't tell you
that I'll give you a big, fancy house to live in, or a shiny new car to drive. Hell, I can't say we'd ever even own a house of our own, nor get past the payments on whatever we could afford to drive. I know you've known men who've promised you the sun and the moon and the stars, and all I can honestly say that you'll get from me is the chance to have someone to look at the sun with you when it's sunny, and the moon and the stars at night. It's pretty likely that I won't be taking you on those trips for a weekend in Vegas or a honeymoon in Hawaii any time soon, if ever. I can't promise that I can do much of anything for you, come to think of it."

After a short pause she asked, "Well, then, what will you do for me?"

He replied, "I'll love you."

She asked, "That's all? That's only thing?"

He looked down at the ground and said, "I can't promise you a damn thing else, but you'll have that. I will love you."

After a longer pause than before, she took his hand and whispered, "Why would you think I'd need anything else?"

8. I knew you'd like that, even if nobody else did.
My brain is leaking out through my fingers tonight.

5. It's a paraphrase of an actual conversation.
If there's anything there you want to work into one of your sermons, use it with my blessing.

out through my fingers. I should probably go to bed soon, or you all will start seeing those posts about the COMMIES again, 84 lines and all one sentence.

And we wouldn't want THAT, would we, especially considering the ramifications, which you know about and indeed remember, not that I'd expect you'd forget, since one of us has to remember and it's a damn good bet it's not going to be me, I try my best, I really do, you can believe me when I tell you that, but sometimes (yes, I know it's actually most of the time, but I'm looking to get a break here, just a little help, which I don't think is a whole lot to ask for), yes, damn it, I'll say it and I don't care who hears it (except for the damn Commies), yes it's true, I do forget the what and the where and the when and the why and occasionally, really it's not every day, even the how, so now I've said it, right here where 80-thousand-plus DUers could cover their ears to spare themselves my agonized howl of confession, kinda like that old-crock-turned-gun-nut Heston guy at the end of the Planet of the Apes movie, and wasn't he the same one who blurted out so theatrically that Soylent Green is People! at the end of the other movie, but if that was a different actor and not the one in the monkey movie, well, you'll have to forgive me, won't you, because I do forget sometimes.

And I think I told you that I did. Didn't I?

11. Thank you, but it's too long for Hallmark. However, I'd buy a card
that had the illustration in your post on it.

I'd buy several dozen, in fact. It's damn funny.
