Possible future NARNIA related questions by fundy kids - Join the fun
"Daddy, why is Jesus behind bars at the zoo?"

"Mommy, I just saw Jesus eat a deer on TV. Will Jesus eat me too?"

"Daddy, if I go hide in the closet, will I go to Narnia?"

1. "Daddy, can we go to the zoo and get Jesus to have as a pet?"

2. if grandma dies
can I visit her in the closet.

I just saw Narnia, and I know there is several religious overtones in the books, but I think they tried hard, REALLY HARD, to keep them out of the movie.

Still they are marketing it to the fundies, although I do not think this crowd will be their base.

As a marketing guy, I think KIDS are the target, so please get the religion out of my kid's movies.

except Spy Kids, make that series fundie, so I can stop going.

4. Lewis' primary aim was to write a good book
As a very convinced Christian (though a million miles away from the fundies it has to be noted) this seeped into his books - and the allegory of it cannot be ignored.

To push the religion to one side would have involved destroying the book - I've yet to see the film, but I really can't imagine Hollywood producing a recruiting film for Christianity.

8. Of *course* they didn't do that. They are seeking to capitalize on two
groups--people who saw LOTR, and the fundies who paid to see "Passion of the Christ" (which is why they're marketing it to them).

And ducky for them, kids can also see it because after all, it's a kid story. This is like the trifecta of moviedom.

Hollywood is trying to make money. Which is why, to me, the movie looks like it lacks the soul LOTR had. Or something. I'm just going by the trailers, though.

7. It's been a few years since I read the books,
But to my mind only three of them have obvious religious/Christian allegory to them.

The first being The Magician's Nephew (which I don't think they're going to make), The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe and The Final Battle. The rest of the books (The Horse and His Boy, Prince Caspian, Voyage of the Dawn Treader and The Silver Chair) are way more subtle, and truth be told, I can't tell you what Lewis was alluding to in them.

I think if the Fundies think they are going to have massive conversions thanks to this film, or think that the Christian message is going to be hammered home, they will be sorely disappointed.

9. Of course they're not--but Hollywood *wants* them to think they might.
I don't know that any fundie group is lauding this film as a major conversion tool--as if they're going to stop showing that (very crappy) Jesus film and start showing Narnia.

3. Daddy, you said the other day that "those people should stay in the closet
Why did Jesus want to help 4 people come out of the closet?"
