I really, really loathe obnoxious people.
I cannot stand people who act smug and superior. The rude, the obnoxious, the abrasive. The people who feel that they're all that, and you can kiss their ass, because they're just superior. I've had a string of these people lately, and I'm seriously considering punching the next one in the face as a means to teach them respect.

Today I sat down for ten minutes outside a wireless electronics store in town with my laptop PC, borrowing the internet connection that the store freely broadcasts, while my companion went into the chinese food restaurant next door to get food. The store was closed, but they leave the broadcast on 24/7. I always figured that it was advertising for the store, being that it was a store all about wireless things. It's quite clear that I'm harmless, unless you're expecting a guy sitting on the sidewalk with an expensive Thinkpad and a pair of headphones to break into cheap little cell phone store.

After the ten minutes, a car pulled up to the curb near me, and the driver started yelling questions at me about whether it was legal to "pirate" someone's wireless. As it turns out, he seems to have been the proprietor, although he didn't mention this to me. I replied with something rather vague, because I didn't have a clue who this idiot was. So, he pulls out his cell phone and threatens to call the cops and have me arrested for "stealing" the internet access that he's giving away.

I tried being nice. I agreed to leave amicably. I pointed out that I had figured it was a form of advertising--something that he tacitly admitted, and which grossly undercut his case, legally speaking. I apologized a couple of times. This, it seems, did not improve his asinine attitude. He kept berating me as I walked away.

The most noxious part is that if he had just asked me in a civil fucking manner, I would have been happy to move along. But no, he has to be a prick, because that is apparently the only way that the owner of a worthless little mobile phone store, stuffed into a run-down building next to Central Tractor, can feel like he's a big fucking man. Congratulations, asshole, you chased away the guy who was checking his email. If I were actually out to do you harm, it would be ridiculously easy for me to bring the FBI and the Secret Service down on your head, humiliating you and destroying your business. Be very, very grateful that I'm not as spiteful as you are.

1. Wow, I should be buddies with you.
There is a guy in my college classes who says "because my mother works at the police department" any time anyone asks him why he thinks he can get by with all the crap he does. The teacher seems oblivious. He even lets the guy work on the school's computers with no supervision. Dealing with that guy is like living in the Twilight Zone. I'd love for someone to punch him. I certainly have felt like it. I'm the only one who has told him to his face that he is arrogant, obnoxious, rude, and plain flat out annoying. He actually acted shocked that anyone would stand up to him. Of course, he's still breaking rules in lab and class left and right and getting away with it, but he won't mess with me when I am busy now. I put a stop to that by giving him a real big dose of reality. I come from a long line of the "I'll not do it." types.
