A holiday question
I'm a 2nd shift supervisior in a factory and this is my first year as the boss. In past years the previous supervisors on all 3 shifts have given their workers a small gift. My dilemma is that a) I'm an athiest(only my assistant knows that though) but I do celibrate the spirit of the season and b) 2 thirds of my workers are Muslim so do I give them some small gift or just pretend it's just another month while the employees on the other shifts get something from their boss?

1. for the morale of the shift
small token gifts...if you need to, call them appreciation for good work!

3. Thanks
That's kinda what I was leaning towards but wasn't sure how to go about it. They are an excellent crew, the best in our department by far.

2. What about an "appreciation" gift?
You appreciate the work they do, and wanted to acknowledge it with a gift. And if someone says Merry Christmas, great! If they say thanks, great! Essentially, regardless of the season, you are acknowledging your crew and the work they do. Nothin' wrong with that, right?

8. Off topic...
...nice photos of a variety of punk bands. What kind of a camera did you use?

9. Depends on when they were taken
If they are black and white most likely either my Minolta X700 or Nikon N60. Color shots are mostly from my Nikon D70 but a few from my Sony point and shoot digital. Oh and thanks glad you liked them.

12. Did that very thing for over a decade...
used film cameras...Started out with a Nikon 8008 and eventually went through a Nikon N90s, have a second N90s. I actually rusted the screws in the eyepiece of that old 8008 by sweating so much when using it, those clubs get hot. Beer and fake blood ruined the first N90s. I saw a whole lot of bands through Nikon optics, I have a 16mm 2.8 which the punk bands seemed to love. Someday I may own a scanner and I can share too. (insert big sigh here) Your Black and White stuff came out particularly well.

13. I take it you've seen GWAR
a time or two? Anyone that mentions fake blood has to have seen GWAR. :D

My old X700 took so much abuse it was unreal. The camera seemed cheap and plastic but it took a hell of a lot of punishment. Finally retired it after a stage diver took off the flash and hotshoe. It still works and I'll use it occasionally if I don't need a flash.

I used to have tons more photos online but I redid my gallery and never uploaded a bunch of my older stuff. That's one of the things that's on my perpetual to-do list though.

14. Actually fake blood came from my local boys...
The old 8008 got knocked out of my hands by a stage diver onto a hardwood floor dead center of a VERY active moshpit at a Genetorturers show. It had an old manuel 50mm1.8 on it. Both survived. Those titanium casings were damned rugged. Eventually developed a cracked housing around eyepiece and moisture got to the electronics. Camera just crapped out after that. I would have loved to have shot Gwar though, never was a fan of the music but those stage shows were pure eye candy.

15. Only photographed GWAR once myself
Edited on Sat Dec-10-05 05:18 AM by electricmonk
And I used a disposable camera then. They were filming one of their movies and wouldn't let cameras in that night so I had to sneak a little Kodak disposable in. I lived in Richmond Va, their hometown, back in the late 80's so I saw them a ton of times but I never cared much for their records myself. They just couldn't capture their live experience at all on vinyl or later CD.

edit: Genetorturers, that name is really familiar but I can't put my finger on it.

16. Here try this:
www.Genitorturers.com
(I misspelled them) They are a female led S&M oriented rock band out of Florida, Tampa I think. I worked with them twice and shot them 3 other times. They used to put on great stage events. Bass player, (Evil Dave Vincent) was originally (singer?) from Morbid Angel. Drummer, (Racci), went on to work with (Edsel) Dope on their second album. Those would be the only East Coast artists I had the pleasure of shooting. I found an old fan site with some of my photos on it not too long ago but I forgot how mildly offensive some of that material was so I'll not post that link. It might get this thread locked anyway.

17. Cool
Reminds me of the Midnight Creeps from Rhode Island. Me and a few freinds are working on opening an underground club in the next couple months and I bookmarked that site. It would be great to get bands like that playing here again.

18. They have a nationwide loyal following.
Be prepared for a very ...um...unique crowd. They work well with "Pittbull Day Care" out of Texas,
http://www.robbsmetalworks.com/galleries/Nationals/PITBULL%20DAYCARE.htm
and I saw them once with a North Eastern band called Psychotica.
Here is a possible NW resource you might check into....
www.giantradio.com
and there is where you will find my fave punk/rock/country heroes Cookie
http://www.giantradio.com/cookie.html The songs are all playable, (if you have Real-Player), but the only real punk song here is Mr. President...pity the lyrics don't hold credibility these days.
I am old and off to bed... Good luck with the club.
