Have you ever, or do you know anyone who bought a car

1. Well, rich people do that.
And that's who's buying a Lexus, I guess?

2. My dad gave my brother his 68 Camero
for Christmas one year. I think it was a Christmas in the 80's at the time. He still has it.

3. Yes--my BIL and SIL bought a shiny black Mercedes and put the
red bow on top for their teenage daughters. (But, it wasn't exorbitant, they explained, because the two girls have to share it.) Postscript: A year later, the 2nd car came along.:puke: :puke: :puke: :puke:

4. Would they like to adopt me?
They don't even have to buy me a Mercedes. I'd be happy with something that runs reliably and doesn't make weird sounds.

6. If only I could convince them to be that generous--I have worked on
it--it just doesn't come through. They are the same girls who take three showers a day, the parents get their cars washed daily, and mom just went back to work--gotta make more money, college, you know. ACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

5. I don't and I think the idea is ridiculous.
That commercial drives me nuts. We even have a local car dealer promoting that garbage. Buying a car isn't like buying a DVD players, there is credit issue, loan issues, sales tax, property tax due each year etc, its a pretty damn big deal.

If I bought my wife a car she would kick my ass. I guess I have this crazy idea that a big purchase should involve both people running the numbers with each person able to veto the idea.

7. No, they are too expensive for something like that
Besides it is not the best time of year to get one anyways if you want to haggle the price down. Yet those who cough up Lexus' for a holiday gift consider that amount of money chump change or are willing to go into more debt to "keep up with the neighborhood".

for our first Valentine's day as an engaged couple....mainly because the car I was driving was a complete POS.

9. No, and it rather repulses me as well. Seriously,
do people watch those commercials and think, "Well, I WAS planning on a bread machine and a ficus tree for the den, but FUCK! a Lexus is a WAY better idea!" :P

13. Here is the offending commercial

http://www.lexus.com/dse/

At the top left of the screen. Notice the yuppie wife is surfing for pro-golf products first before getting the "idea" to get the Lexus (it is a low end/"cheap" model (only $30-40K) in the ad).

The mindset/demographic is clearly pointed out in the ad.

Edit: it is a ES in the ad that starts at ONLY $30K for a sedan.

16. Everywhere there's lots of piggies

Living piggy lives
You can see them out for dinner
With their piggy wives
Clutching forks and knives to eat their bacon.

18. I gave "part" of a new truck to an ex girlfriend on her birthday...
so, not Christmas, but we went together on her birthday, picked out the truck, I made the downpayment and the next three years of payments... I guess that qualifies... kinda. But just buying a car putting a bow on it and giving it to someone... yeah... that's nuts.
