Um, what did people like about Miami Vice...?
...can anyone enlighten me on this?

There's a Miami Vice marathon on TV Land today. I was watching part of an episode
earlier with my husband, and we couldn't stop laughing. It's so bad--it's funny!

I tried during it's popularity to watch the show. I managed to make it through one
episode. Every other time, I fell asleep. I just didn't get what the big deal was
with this show...

So, if you were a fan, 'fess up! LOL!

:hi:

1. I liked the pilot...
That's about it. Got really repetitive after that.

4. Maybe they will air the pilot during the marathon--
I'll have to look up the name of it on imdb, and look for it
during the marathon. Maybe that will be worth checking out.

If nothing else, it's pretty humorous to watch--relieving those
cheesy fashion moments and 80's television.

2. Don Johnson's cool outfits.
Rolled up/pushed up sport coat sleeves were quite the rage for a season.

3. Ah yes--
I remember it well. The lovely leisure look, in pastel that became
all the rage in the 80's.

That's my excuse.

I caught a little bit of it this morning - if ever a show looked and sounded dated, that's the one.

32. LOL! I understand--
I saw that movie, Band of the Hand made by the same guys that made Miami Vice.
I'm so afraid to rent it, as I know it will suck. Back then, I thought it was
soooo good. Now, I know it will seem incredibly dated and hokey.

9. It, and the Testarossa were apparently ceased in a drug bust
If I recall correctly

However, if I were an undercover cop, I wouldn't want to be driving around in the same town as some drug lord who had his baby taken away by the fuzz.

Sorry to be a grammar cop, but it is a funny one!

True story. I actually interviewed Michael Mann, the producer of the show, for a traffic accident he was in, in HIS Ferrari. I worked for the insurance company that covered him.

19. heh, oops
wrong word, but I'll leave it up :D

I watched the special features of Collateral, the guy seems to really take himself far too seriously - yet I suspect having all of the actors in your movies that far up your ass will do that to a person

31. Heat is wonderful--
one of the best gunfights ever filmed, imo.

I love how quiet it is. How there are a lot of moments that don't have
much dialogue. You need great actors to pull that kind of story off, and
he had them!

One of my faves!

Before Miami Vice, the city where I was born and raised, was known soley as a place where retired people go to die. After Miami Vice, it was known as a hip, dangerous place of sexy women and shady men.

Otherwise, it was a fucking asshole ignorant POS show that should have been cancelled at the third commercial break in the pilot; cancelled by the president of that network, on live TV, with a formal apology for foisting its ignorance and that asshole clueless shitass wunderfuck Don Johnson, may he rot in hell for not even managing to hit the realm of the insufferably mediocre.

Wasn't this the time that helped take Don Johnson to that level of stardom
where he got delusional and thought he could sing?

Also guesting was Kramer from Seinfeld. Hard to accept him as a bad guy. But, it was pretty good TV, and I look good in pastels (or did then), so I give it a thumbs up.

46. for starters, it was at least significant
because it showed a police culture that WASN'T NY/SF/LA--These guys obviously NOT Joe Friday/Popeye Doyle or the Hill Street Blues gang...It was all about the flash, clothing styles and exotic cars, the hot neon and pastel colors everywhere, the music and videos, the warm inviting weather and half-nekkid women, you get the idea--it was VERY enticing, and as a kid, right after being an astronaut and an olympic gold medalist, I wanted to be a police officer in Miami...I was born in 76, so i as a kid i was a loyal viewer in its heyday

49. The theme song was cool.
"Miami Vice" made 5-o'clock shadow acceptable in polite company. Did I say I hate shaving?

I wouldn't say I was a fan of the show, but I watched it.

It was aesthetically interesting and stunning -- the colors, camera angles, atmosphere, stark lighting, architecture, interiors. It had high production values -- compare it to previous cop shows like "Rockford Files" or "Hawaii Five-0" -- I'm not referring to plots and character development, and dialogue, but the visual look of the show.

It used music by the original artists, rather than canned, in-house music that merely emulated hit songs of the day. Hence, with real artists' music, the interspersion of quasi music-videos within the show.

Some people may love to hate it now (and, actually, people loved to hate it then), but "Miami Vice" was revolutionary, at least for hourlong TV dramas, and a lot of the cutting-edge stuff "Miami Vice" did then is taken for granted today, such as the music video-like segments and movie production values brought to the small screen.

I'm no expert on this matter, but "Miami Vice" revolutionized TV series.
