So, my kid got a Deficiency Report in the mail today. She is
getting an E in Reading so far this grading period. I've given her until 5:00 PM today to give me a written plan for how she will address this, and I'll be curious to see what she comes up with. I know for certain that her evening computer time will be extremely curtailed till she brings her grades up, but I'm curious to see how she'll approach this.

She got the Deficiency Report because she recently missed 8 days of school due to a stomach flu. She hasn't gotten around to making up all the work she missed.

Parenthood. Sigh.

3. Kiski. And I'd never heard of an E either. Until I opened that
letter.

Anyway, I meant to tell you congrats on the good news from the neuro-opthamologist results!

10. I was gonna say...
...that perhaps the teacher needs a little more schooling.

Grades go A-D, plus F. I haven't seen an E since my early elementary days, when it stood for excellent.

15. I think they gave her an E because they can't technically flunk
her yet. The possibe grades for this Deficiency Report are D, E, and Incomplete.

12. I think so too.
I like how you are giving her some ownership of the problem instead of 1) ignoring it, or 2) telling her what to do and forcing her to do it.

If this is the way you normally parent, I applaud you. :-) If more parents approached discipline in this kind of way when kids were younger, I'd probably have fewer immature, irresponsible undergraduates in my college classroom.

7. Penn Hills? Whadda bunch of chumps!
:D

Lump of coal has no real power over her. Her birthday is in the beginning of January, however, and I'm reserving the right to threaten to cancel her birthday trip to the new Pittsburgh Mills. THAT has power to a 14 yr. old!

8. Is that where they're building the Pittsburgh Hofbrauhaus?
I look forward to that arriving. It kind of pisses me off. After my freshman summer in Bavaria, I come back and say "I wish there were a beerhall here", Penn Brewery is Ok, but it's not the liter-swilling joy that Munich has. So within days of finding out that I had to leave Pittsburgh, I read that they're building a freaking Hofbrauhaus. It's just not fair! Oh well, there's always visits to mom and the brother.

20. Yeah, Champaign Urbana is pretty cool. A tad small, but good for being...
a student. I better go down to my office and do some work now.

She's my oldest, and I'm hoping that this is the worst trouble she ever gets in to! :scared:
