7. Same here. No need to study though...
Most Americans would be lucky to get 12 correct... and most don't even know there are 50 states; my 3rd grade teacher certainly didn't, and that was in 1980... how she got a license, I have no idea... maybe Captain Kangaroo was doling them out...

I should have gone with my gut about who was born in Texas. I was going to say Eisenhower, but then decided to check off Reagan. Didn't realize we didn't have an official language. I guessed on the questions about the amendments and got two of those wrong.

53. Two were brain cramps
I got the terms of senators and congressmen mixed up, and I remembered only McKinley and JFK being assassinated.

The other one — I honestly didn't know that the U.S. has no official language.

I don't know which amendment was ratified in 1992, but I knew that had to be the last one, since the 26th, which gave 18-year-olds the vote, was ratified in 1972. I was a sophomore in high school and I had a friend who was 18 and a senior, and he had a dental appointment or something one day. The next day he wrote his own note excusing himself, which caused a bit of confusion in the attendance office. :7

55. You forgot Lincoln?
That is bad. I did not think 1961 was right for the 18 year olds to vote, so I should have known better, but I could not believe there was an amendment in 1992 which I did not remember either. It was this:

Amendment XXVII
No law, varying the compensation for the services of the Senators and
Representatives, shall take effect, until an election of Representatives shall have intervened.

Remember that, when we complain about their pay raises. We have the option of electing Representatives who promise to undo it.

45. I got 27
However, I disagree and have other problems with this quiz:

1. The second question asks "which of the following right (sic) is guaranteed by the first amendment?"
This may seem picky, but if you are going to put out a quiz purporting to rate something as important as this, at least proofread.
(I got this one right)

2. Why did the pilgrims come to America? I answered the one that was closest to being correct: "To find religious freedom." and was accorded a correct answer. In fact, the pilgrims did NOT come to America to find religious freedom. They pretty much had that in the Netherlands. They also had to put up with "decadent" influences of others. They came to this country to find from everyone else's religious freedom; to creste, as Governor Winthrop called it, "a shining city on a hill." In this regard they are the forerunners the Jerry Falwells, Pat Robertsons, James Dobsons, et al., ad nauseam.

3. My favorite qustion asks how many "total senators are there." I would assume that there could be a spirited debate over this question (as worded). For instance, I don't consider Joe Lieberman to be a "total senator", and I am not sure that Ted Stevens is even totally human, but that's another post. LOL Remember, I am the word police.
