HELP! I need advice: I need to buy a bright 10 year old boy a Christmas gift. He is very interested in space flight, particularly the Apollo program.

Can you recommend a gift -- book, DVD? He's a budding engineer who I would love to encourage.

Thanks

1. I've always been into astronomy/space.
When I was a kid, my aunt bought me a beginner's telescope for Christmas. I've always treasured it and still use it to this day.

3. Get him Chuck Yeager's Autobiography....
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0553256742/qid=1134264978/sr=8-1/ref=pd_bbs_1/103-7799832-8251812?n=507846&s=books&v=glance
I suggest this book cause it has stories of his exploits as a WWII fighter ace as well as the whole story of him breaking the sound barrier and what life was like back then in the high desert of California after the war. The days when the US space program really began.

Also "The Right Stuff" Is about the first astronauts. Not specifically about the Apollo program, more about the 1st crew of Air Force and Navy pilots trained for the Astronaut Corps. I have not read "right stuff" but i found Yeager's book a great read.

Also there was a book and documentary called Moon Shot by Al Shepard and Deke Slayton which covers the beginning of the Mercury program up to Apollo which I have on tape; no DVD as yet...

Do not, repeat, do not buy him a telescope. Speaking as an amateur astronomer here. First, find your local club: http://skyandtelescope.com/resources/organizations/
Then look through some of their telescopes first. Learn the pros and cons of each type first. It's too easy to make the wrong purchase before you know anything.
