Why do they show Sonic commercials here?
The closest one is about 150 miles from Cleveland. Do they think we are going to drive that far for a friggin' burger?

1. When I was living at home in Alaska
we would get adds for so MANY things that weren't even in the state. Red Lobster for one (there might be one there now, I'm not sure). But the kicker was watching all these commercials for things like Sprint that would have these great deals offered, but at the end of the commercial I could read the tiny white font on the bottom of the screen that said:

"Offer not valid in Alaska and Hawaii"

Bastards. Why did I have to even have to see your commericals if I couldn't partake of any of the offers!?!

My other favorite was: "Prices may vary in Alaska and Hawaii"

2. I think it's the "man" holding us down...Lol
Really though... why show that stuff in areas that can't get to them?

3. Maybe you're going to get one!
We've had Kohl's advertisements here for about a year, but we had no Kohl's. We are, however, getting one some time this coming year.

6. They would probably do well
They would have to make it a "dine in", but can open up the outside part in the summer. I had one last year in Texas, and it was ok but not worth a 150 mile trip.

8. We don't have dine-in here.
We have drive-in and patio seating, as well as the drive-through. If we eat there in the winter, we just stay in the car with the windows rolled up. I love the patio in the summer.

4. Sonic is Nowhere Near Us Either
The closest one I can think of is in Orlando. Can't get up there to get that Mushroom Swiss Burger right now. Maybe later?!?!?!?

show those commercials here, either.

16. I think I have it figured out.
They're trying to market to the vacation crowd. You know, even if there is no Sonic near you, you can go to one at your vacation resort. So, the next time I vacation in Nelsonville, Ohio, I am *so* going to the Sonic there! :D

11. They show the commercials here too
Edited on Sun Dec-11-05 03:42 PM by LeftyMom
I don't think there's a Sonic in an adjoining state, even.

Edit: I take that back, there's one in Woodland and one in Modesto. When did that happen?

14. Woodland is about 45 minutes
Modesto's about 2 hours. Both are within range of TV stations based here, which I assume is why we've got Sonic ads and no Sonic.

17. My Mom has 2 in Crestview
I was shocked. I then asked if everyone there is Fat. She said yeah! There are more fast food joints in 2 aquare miles up there than even down here in South Florida. Jeez

18. I had Sonic once, when I was in Texas in 1989.
Very good burgers. They are not unlike Rally's, which is one of my favorites.

My taste of Sonic was in Texas. I think they are no better than Ralleys.

I'm in NY. Closest "Sonic" locations are in... West Virginia, or Ohio. And yes, they do play the commercials here! (Even though mushroom burgers are ewwww, gross!)

But they are creeping toward Cleveland.....

Plus, it is easier and cheaper to run national commercials than to try and split markets....

24. Like I said up there ^
They would do pretty well here if they opened one. It's almost worth thinking of getting one of their franchise here.

27. If you know anyone who's interested, here's the info.
http://www.sonicdrivein.com/business/franchise/ownAFranchise.jsp

When I was a carhop we had sockhop nights and car shows. On both nights the carhops had to wear proper fifties attire (I went w/ classic poodle skirt, etc) and could wear roller skates. Prices were rolled back to almost nothing and tips were great when you actually rollerskated to the car w/ the food. Car shows happen on the lot-classic cars everywhere w/ prizes given(another big night). Plus, many allow various clubs and organizations to work as carhops for an afternoon w/ all the tips and carhop wages going to the club involved. They are really big on community involvement.

22. They are branching out nationwide.
They started out in OK and are all over the Midwest(for the most part). Decent malteds, decent burgers and I love their fountain drinks. I'm partial to the diet cherry limeade or a pink flamingo(lemonade, Sprite, lemon wedges and strawberries).
I'll think of you next time I go-I have one about five blocks from me.

26. I prefer their drinks over their food.
I was a carhop in high school and the majority of their business is actually their drinks. My personal favorite is a Route 44 diet coke w/ lemon and lime wedges or a fresh brewed ice tea w/ lemon and lime. The big sellers were the cherry limeades, cherry-vanilla dr pepper, cherry cokes(w/ cherry juice and real cherries) or a chocolate coke.
They also tend to pay their employees better than most fast food. Nearly 15 years ago I was making about $7 an hour carhopping plus tips (about $25-30 a night). Most fast food is is minimum wage only. And I think I read somewhere once that they are on the Buy Blue list.
My daughter and I eat there often when we are on the run.
