Do you need digital cable to use TIVO?

I want to buy a TIVO for my parents, but they only have basic Comcast cable. Has anyone had experience with this? I don't want to buy them a gift they have to upgrade to use, on top of the extra 13.oo per month.

1. Nope...

We just have standard cable ourselves, and it works just fine. When you setup the TiVo, all you do is pick your cable provider, and select the channels you personally get. The TiVo takes care of the rest. The source (digital or otherwise) isn't important.

They'll never watch TV the same again. We got my parents one last year. My mom swears by it now.
