Rudolph the rednosed reindeer
Is it just me or is Rudolph a really stupid name for a reindeer? I mean, you have Dasher and Dancer and Prancer and Vixen, Comet and Cupid and Donner and Blitzen. And RUDOLPH? Come on! That's got no poetic ring to it at all.

I think his name should have been Lightning or something.

Discuss.

1. I'll see your rudolph and raise you a bambi: Bambi is CLEARLY a girl's
name.

How on earth did a little boy deer get stuck with it?

3. What is it with deer's names?
Why all the silly names for deer? Is it some sort of conspiracy? :tinfoilhat:

2. well, "Blitzen" already means lightning
However maybe "RED" would have been cool
Take it up with Gene Autry; he wrote the song.

4. Alliteration
Edited on Mon Dec-12-05 07:19 PM by LiberalEsto
There are 3 words beginning with R in the first line: Rudolph, red-nosed and reindeer.

Alliteration, or the repetition of certain letters or sounds, is a device sometimes used in poetry or songs. It helps make a sentence or line easier to remember.

"Lightning the flying reindeer" just doesn't have the same impact.

6. No, Lightning was this guy:

From the old Amos & Andy TV sitcom.

"After A&A":
Nick Stewart (Lightning), with his wife Edna, ran a theater in Los Angeles which they had founded earlier; plays were still being produced there in the 1980s.
