If you like horror films, seek out "Three...Extremes"
http://www.apple.com/trailers/lions_gate/threeextremes/

It's an anthology film, a collection of three shorts.

The first one, Box, directed by Takashi Miike is one of the best, creepiest, most beautifully surreal horror films I've ever seen.

The second one, Dumplings, directed by Fruit Chan, has some REALLY nasty subject matter, and is creepy on almost too many levels, haha.

The third one, Cut, directed by Park Chan-wook, is actually kinda funny (intentionally), yet sad and disturbing at the same time.

Nice to see horror done right for a change, in three very different styles.

5. i love horror movies
you should still see haute tension... it's very campy in retrospect... very bad, but in a camp sense

it's the only "horror" flick that roused my interest in recent memory

6. I've heard it's pretty gory...true?
I can't handle too much gore.

Hostel looks like it might have potential as well, I think. At least, I hope. http://www.apple.com/trailers/lions_gate/hostel/

11. Yeah, Saw is Lion's Gate, and I think The Devil's Rejects is too...
Which was quite badass. I never even noticed they were all Lions Gate. That's pretty cool.

27. devil's rejects
Edited on Tue Dec-13-05 12:32 AM by sundog
high high 70s camp tribute

cinematography... music... everything was spot on

strange part is i haven't seen 1000 corpses yet, to which this was the sequel... so i guess that's my project for tomorrow

seriously good stuff... there is some genre redefinition here, but i have to see the other flick before i can dissect & analyze it completely

hey ya jonny :hi:

29. House of 1,000 Corpses wasn't as good
Decent mind you, but nowhere near as good as The Devil's Rejects.

She is the main reason I liked 1000 Corpses. "Three...Extremes" is on the way. *wink*

34. no, just a lookalike
it would have been off the radar if she was, but alas... she was probably busy with other stuff...

there are some excellent cameos with priscilla barnes (of all people!), geoffrey lewis & pj soles

36. rejects was so highly stylized
that was its greatest strength...

and the excellent good/bad play wrangling back & forth... the protagonists & antagonists are ever-shifting

10. thanks.,...
there are a few subtitle sites i use but never knew of this one. it's always nice when they are hardcoded into the movie already but i have learned where to find them and how to add them since i prefer foreign movies..

12. Yeah, I find it's rare for them to be actually burned into the movie
I've gotten to the point where I'm so used to downloading subs that I don't even bother to watch the movie until I find subs, sometimes not finding any, thinking I'm screwed, then discovering the movie had the subs burned in, haha.

15. Sweet. I'm dying to see this & "Lady Vengeance"
I wish I had broadband :) I think this may have played in the UK once at a horror-con, but no news whatsoever of a larger release yet.

Did you know that Miike has done one of the "Masters of Horror" for Showtime (the series that had the Joe Dante "Homecoming" zombie satire, that everyone's raved about). We're still about 2 years behind Miike film releases (Zebraman & Izo haven't come out; the last release was the absolutely bat-shit crazy & highly recommended TV series "MPD-Psycho" - a scanlation of the original manga are available here: http://www.omanga.net/?cid=b_mpd_psycho )
