Does anyone recall the inedible Xmas candy
they used to hand out to schoolkids years ago especially after holiday movie matinees? There used to be mesh sox full of hard candy and unshelled nuts and other items difficult to eat or requiring hours to suck on and consume. Usually the town drunk dressed up as Santa handed these out. Ah memories.

1. I hate to admit it but I remember them. I had blessedly forgotten
about them but you had to go and remind me.

Yuk!!!!!

(The mesh stockings were as stiff as boards)

2. Sorry about that.
I just had to make sure they were not some hallucinatory flashback! Why were those mesh things as stiff as they were? That's a detail I forgot.

5. Wow! That's a good detail to recall.
I would really like to know what group was behind the distribution of these. It seems like a universal thing. Last time I remember getting such candy in the sock was about 1958 or 1959. Anyone recall a date?
