To make up for my error, I'll note that the very famous Canadian Alan Thicke wrote the theme song.

Just in the first season. Then they went from six girls to four; the other casualty, Felice Schachter, was my favorite, and is doubtless now married to a used car dealer in Van Nuys or something like that. :(

edit: spelling of childhood crush. Ye gods!

50. he was on a lot
for the first couple of seasons, he played booker who was the supervisor at the factory where jackie, roseanne, crystal and anne marie worked. (i'm freakishly obsessed with roseanne, is that weird?)

he and jackie had a thing for a while actually.

3. I thought it was a really good show until they left college and got fat
around that time the writing went to hell and it became something that should simply have been left to die.

But the first number of years, while they were still actually in school, I thought the show was pretty well written and funny, and always looked forward to it. It's not one of the greatest by any means, but I liked it. But once they started their candy shop or whatever the fuck it was and Tootie and Blair gained a couple hundred pounds...

8. "Hello Larry" was worse
McLean Stevenson overestimated his talent and appeal. Without a script, he was nothing - which is true of more actors than they would care to admit.

31. Oh MAN! I had it BAD for Kim Richards when I was a kid.
In the Witch Mountain movies, she was my goddess. In "Return From Witch Mountain", with her all dressed up in a dress and nylons, my seven-year-old heart just about melted! I hate the fact that she just sorta disappeared. She deserved a better career.

BTW, she looks incredible in that photo. B-)

The last movie I saw Kim Richards in was Tuff Turf, and she looked SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO fine. It depressed me that she didn't seem to do much after that.

41. I LOVED Kim Richards! (And Ike Eisenmann too!)
In my youth, before my hormones got "straightened out," I had crushes on both of them, and adored the two "witch mountain" movies. And I did watch "Hello Larry," just for her. (And that voice! Soaked in whiskey at 14! Demi Moore is a pale imitation.)

Supposedly, a few years ago, someone did a low-budget spoof of "Blair Witch" called "The Blair Witch Mountain Project"--and they managed to get Richards and Eisenmann to reprise their roles! I think it might still be somewhere out there on the web.

19. Why?
Edited on Tue Dec-13-05 08:18 AM by HypnoToad
Apart from the anti-lesbian episode in season 1 where one girl felt abnormal because she was a tomboy (that wasn't Jo)... no words were used, but the coy dialogue spoke for itself.

Of course, tomboy Jo (season 2+) is almost a flaming hetero...

Tootie was cool. Natalie passable. The snotty little bleach bottle blonde was so artificial, a walking make-up ad too. Snotty and full of herself and the actress (Lisa Welcher?) couldn't act to save her life.

Season 2 also transformed the show from yet-another-shitcom to moral preachy drivel of the week. Kinda what Star Trek The Next Generation would become... :7

42. Yes, but it did have talented cast members
The writing occasionally was sophmoric, but Mindy Cohn, Lisa Welchel and Nancy McKeon were great comediennes, whenever they did get a funny line. (Kim Fields, God bless her, was mostly for decoration.) And give it props: it was one of the few sitcoms in the early-to-mid 80's that would stil occasionally tackle a serious subject (attempted rape, eating disorders, etc.) in a time when most shows seemed to be mostly as warm and fuzzy as Bill Cosby's sweaters.

51. Because Natalie asked the writers why they weren't having sex.
The actress, Mindy Cohn, went to the writers/producers and was like "um, why haven't *any* of these girls had sex? Are they going to be virgins forever?" So I guess the best story they thought of was to be the one you didn't expect to have sex, to have sex. Except that would have been Tootie, who was emotionally about 3 LOL!!

52. True. But interesting.
It's on Comcast On Demand right now and I think I've watched all of the shows that they have (about five). I can't stand the character of Blair (mean is fine; but the actress's cheesy one-note acting is tedious). Otherwise, I think it's a fun (although juvenile) show. Natalie was a great character, with a unique actress. Tootie, Jo, and Mrs Garrat were good too.
