We live in a very strange society
Some people look at the deaths of 100,000 for political purposes as yards in a football game and proclaim "Justice is done!" when the state takes a life based on evidence.

Evidence.

(I'm just rambling now.)

How far from "faith" is "evidence"?

It was believed Iraq was a threat to the U.S. It was believed Stanley "Tookie" Williams killed four people.

Seems to me belief is not enough.

1. Belief is not enough for me either
Which is why I'm against the DP, against the war, and an atheist. But to some, believing that God told Dumbya to attack Iraq is justification enough, and believing God exists because the Bible says so is enough, and believing the DP is good because the state says so is enough. It's not enough for me.

2. It's all subjective.
I heard a caller on Randi Rhodes today that told of how Tookie was one of the prisoners who came to his school in Compton. He was really moved by Tookie's description of prison life, and vowed to change his life around. This guy was born to a crackhead mom, and absent father. But because of what he heard, and learned, from Tookie's experience, he vowed he would never end up like that. Turns out the guy is 2 years away from finishing his PhD.

Ultimately, I think we need to ask: do we believe in redemption, or not?

3. And a corollary to that
Whom do we believe is our redeemer?

4. well, I have an answer to that...
but it isn't real popular around here. ;)

Let's just say that Christians who support the death penalty don't have a good understanding of grace and forgiveness. And if they don't have that, they must have a pretty low opinion of themselves as well.

(it's all about the grace)
