Who here goes to 'Drinking Liberally' events
http://drinkingliberally.org/locations.html#dyl

I'm thinking of going to the Philly one tonight provided that this strange funky sensation I'm feeling isn't a damn cold! (BTW it's at Tangiers at 1801 Lombard).

Anyone else attend 'Drinking Liberally' events. If you don't know what it is, it's a national group with meetings across the country where liberals get together at local watering holes. I wish there was one in Delaware somewhere because I'm guessing I'm going to end up in a really smokey bar, which sorry folks, I just can't take anymore.

But still I think this is a good event and DU should come out and support this cause!

1. I'm a host for the Milwaukee chapter.
It's a lot of fun. We get 20 to 25 people each time (the same core 8-10, another rotating 8-10, and then a bunch of newbies and one-time guests). I suspect tomorrow's will be pretty slow because we're expecting a good amount of snow. (I'll probably go regardless, as I live pretty close to the venue.)

Yes, it's in a smoky bar (it's Milwaukee -- all bars are smoky here). I believe Duncan Black (aka Atrios) attends the Philadelphia ones.

2. Well, that's going to be the deciding factor for tonight
I can feel a cold coming on and I don't want to make it worse being around smoke. But I posted in the forums and they said there are a few folks from Wilmington who come up to Philly so hopefully we can start our own small chapter in delaware and enjoy the event smoke-free.

I get around heavy smoke and I'm hacking like an old lady for a week afterwards. It's really sad

3. I've wanted to go to one but just haven't
I'm kind of intimidated by the New York City chapter--it's the founding one and I suspect it's pretty big! :scared:

4. The founding chapter is indeed enormous, but the hosts are good people
I've talked to Katrina Baker, David Alpern and Justin Krebs -- they'll help make newbies feel welcome.

That's the cool think about DL -- you can go to any meeting in any city in the country and be at home.

5. I went for a while because it was held at a bar on the way to
choir practice, but then they moved it so that it was no longer convenient.
