Golden Globe Nominations list here: Discuss
http://www.imdb.com/features/rto/2006/goldenglobes

I'm really upset - Viggo Mortensen made "A History of Violence" and he doesn't get a nomination? I also think David Cronenberg derserved one for Best Director for the same film (which got a best picture nod).

:grr:

On a better note: NO FUCKING RAYMOND CRAP TV SHOW NOMINATIONS. Thank goodness!

I also like that this year, 2 of the actresses from Sex and the City are now nominated for other categories - goes to show what talent they had in that show. Parker has a Best Actress in her new movie and Cynthia Nixon has one for her HBO movie where she did Eleanor Roosevelt amazingly well.

2. House should have been nominated for best Drama series.
I am glad that Hugh Laurie was nominated for actor for House though!

3. I'm not at all suprised, but I'd've loved to see Joseph Gordon-Levitt
get a nod for his incredible performance in "Mysterious Skin".

I haven't seen "A History of Violence" (it comes to my cinema in January), but it's great that it's picked up a nomination. (As with the nominations for "Match Point", I'm just psyched that directors I love have their work recognized; especially if this is a sign that Woody Allen is returning to form.)

I can't really comment on many of the films as Good Night & Good Luck, Match Point, Brokeback Mountain, Walk the Line, Capote & Proof (for starters) haven't opened in the UK yet :(

I thought "Crash" was pretty mediocre and certainly doesn't deserve "best screenplay" (although I will concede that Dillon was good).

"Lost" & "Desperate Housewives" should win their respective categories, with Felicity Huffman getting best comic actress.

I love Bill Nighy & KellY McDonald, but "Girl in the Cafe" was guff. It's cool to see that "Blackpool" aired in the States (it features the new Doctor Who - David Tenant - as a singing detective!)

I'd love to see Larry David win TV comic actor, although I've heard the 5th season suffers a little. Failing that (although it doesn't air in the UK until February) Jason Lee should win, just for being Jason Lee.

Where's "Arrested Development" though? Does the premature cancellation render it null to the Globes folk?

That is all :)

5. I thin Joseph Gordon Leavitt is up for an Independent Spirit Award
As well he should be--he and "Mysterious Skin" were both magnificent, and at this point (I still haven't seen "Brokeback," "Memiors of a Geisha" "The Family Stone" "The Producers" or "Narnia" yet) it's my favorite picture and performance of the year.

You can always complain about this sort of thing--where was Jake Gyllenhall? What about Viggo? Who the hell thought "The Squid and the Whale" was a comedy? I heard Uma Thurman is wonderful in "The Producers," where was she? Why Will Ferrell and not Matthew Broderick? How come "King Kong" and "Munich" are up for Best Director but no other major awards? What happened to the luminous Claire Danes in "Shopgirl?" Etc.

I'd put early money on "Brokeback" for best picture and director (Drama), Hoffman or Ledger for Best drama actor, Witherspoon for best musical/comedic actress, Phoenix for Best Musical/Comedy actor, Matt Dillon for Supporting Actor and Rachel Weisz for Supporting Actress. Best Dramatic actress, I'm stumped, but since the Globes often like international actors and actresses, maybe Ziyi Zhang for "Memoirs."

4. That rumbling you hear is the "gayo liberal foreign press" backlash
that cometh.

Fuck'em. Good for the Golden Globes.

6. I love it!
I'm sure there will be protests ala Freddie Phelps this year. Hope they enjoy getting their asses kicked when they come to LA.
