1. woke up in the middle of surgery once
for a hernia when i was a kid. lifted my head right off the table and saw the docs hands in my abdomen. didn't feel anything but was really wierd.

they pretty much freaked out on me after that. kinda cool to see my own innards though

9. Hey, I watched one of my knee operations.
Edited on Tue Dec-13-05 01:28 PM by Redstone
It was in the early days of the scopes, and I wanted to check it out, because it was just for cutting out some cartilage, not fiddling with ligaments. The doctor said OK, he'd let me have only a local, but if I twitched, he'd hit me on the head with a hammer to knock me out so he could finish up without any distractions.

I didn't twitch. And it was cool to watch. I be the hospitals' lawyers would never let a surgeon do that these days.

4. Yep, hernia surgery
I, however, did not wake up. And even if I had, they did it laproscopically, and all I would have seen was 2 metal rods being pushed in and out of my belly button area.

10. Several times
My fondest memory is when I had my hysterectomy. They gave me a morphine drip, the kind where you can self administer by pressing a little button (they rig it so you can only administer so much within a certain amount of time).

Anyway, I was lying in bed just rhythmically pushing that button and I got so stoned that I had to ring for the nurse and tell her, "Mmmmmm, losht my buttonnnn....."

She said, "Skygazer, it's in your hand!" So I started pushing again....

I love morphine drips.... :loveya:

14. Yes - with gas
when I was a nipper - to have 4 teeth removed.

Felt no ill-effects at all afterward, but was well-impressed at getting the whole tooth including the root to give to the tooth-fairy.

25. I have three times
I had a hernia too when I was four. The worst part of that was the recovery room and then trying to stand up. Thank goodness I didn't wake up during surgery.

26. When I got my wisdom teeth out.
I didn't plan on full anesthesia, but my partner at the time was the surgeon's hygienist, and they did it all for free, including the gas. Strange feeling, to go under and have no involvement whatsoever in a fairly wrenching experience.
