My loving tribute to Janet Pilgrim Miss December 1955!
Playmate of the Month 3 times! On July 1955 and October 1956 as well. Pretty well covered up for a centerfold shot...I've seen more exposed in Sports Illustrated...

Happy Holidays!

3. you know you are
absolutely right. My parents (rest their souls) would have bug eyes and be completely overwhelmed at what is on TV now. We have become desensitized.

5. And if I remember my Playboy trivia correctly
Ms. Pilgrim was the secretary at the time. One of the reasons she got tapped three times, other than her voluptous good looks, was that Hef couldn't find a model, or the designated model bailed on him, and thus Janet would fill in.

Lovely looking woman, from the days when it was all real and America didn't have a fixation on being unhealthly thin.

7. Here's a website you might like...

You can certainly see the progression of what is considered sexy. Some of the women of 40-50 years ago even have a little cellulite going on! They are all much more real looking than the plastic and airbrushed centerfolds of today.

I asked my husband what he thought, and he definitely prefers the women of yesteryear.

9. It all went downhill in the 1980's
Edited on Wed Dec-14-05 06:04 PM by Xithras
It's funny, but I had to browse through the 1980's ones, and some of those brought back fond memories of my youth

The new ones are just WIERD. All of the 2000+ ones have girls with this odd plastic-looking sheen on their skin. They don't look real, and they all look exactly the same. Same body, same skin, same curves...only the face changes. Modern Playboy is BORING, which is why I haven't bought a copy in about 16 years.

The articles aren't even interesting anymore! Playboy used to engage some of the most talented writers in the world to write for them, and they actually attempted to appeal to our intellect as well as our libido. Nowadays it's rehashed nonsense from third-rate writers...it's filler material.

10. PB hasn't been the same since the seventies
Like you said, the models all look the same, they all have the same surgically augmented bods, the same expressions, etc. Playboy is getting squeezed from all sides these days. Penthouse and others are more explicit, the internet is free, and FHM, Stuff & Maxim are crowding them on the soft core side. Esquire and others have better writing.

Anyway, I still have this issue, with the Jimmy Carter interview. It also has my favorite centerfold of all time! Damn you, Jimmy Connors! You stole my girlfriend when I was only 16 years old! x(

8. LOL! A Playboy centerfold is posted, and it's not a sex thread!
That is funny, but I do see more skin at the beach.

I won't link to it for obvious reasons, but I once came across a vintage pornography site that had nude images (soft & hardcore) from the 1800's up to the 1970's. One thing that struck me was how beautiful and how REAL the women were. Not these made up, overly skinny dolls like you see in modern porn, but actual beautiful women. A lot of the pre-1920's stuff had plumper women who wouldn't stand a chance in the world of making a modern centerfold, but they were stunning in the images. Back then, the emphasis was on making the images into art, and on portraying the female body as a lustful and beautiful thing. That's lost today.
