Nephew turning 21. Unconventional young man. Gift ideas?
He has Asperger's - a pretty, um, strong case of it. He just started his first job several weeks ago - at the deli counter in a grocery store - and he loves it and does very well.

Turning 21 but he doesn't drink. I thought I might get him a frequent flyer's card at Bev'Mo, but I'm not sure he'd get/appreciate the joke.

He has hair down to his butt that he refuses to cut until he finds a buyer. He won't donate it.

He plays video games and is obsessed with D&D and engrish.com, and with wolves (unhealthily, IMO). I would like to get him something a little more mature, but who knows what that would be and whether he'd enjoy it.

Ideas?

Thank you very much!

Assuming that if he's a D&D fan, he's a Star Wars fan as well.

5. Yes, it's a tabletop role playing game like D&D
I'd tell you more but they changed a lot from the Revised edition and I haven't played the new version.

11. is he into multiplayer role playing games?
i just got World of Warcraft and it's freaking awesome. you don't have to be super social to play it (even though it's filled with other people, you don't really have to interact with them if you don't want to). it's for PC or mac only, and you need a decently good one to play it.

i work exclusively with kids with autism, so your post really caught my eye. i'm glad to know he has a job he loves where he can interact with so many different people!

best of luck to you :)

13. To take the idea someone else gave you
and run with it, if hes into D&D and (were)wolves, a good one to look into might be RAGE: The Apocalypse. I was never into RPGs but I use to play the collectible card game and there is a lot of visceral imagery all related to werewolfs in that game for sure

Lots of gore and sexual innuendo too, so it fits one definition of mature (ie too hot for kids) but maybe not your definition of mature lol

There are probably others to ask who are alot more familiar with it than I...

15. You could get him some D&D minis to paint up, too
or a gift card to the local gaming store. (Oh, if you get him the W:TF book, he'll probably need some 10 sided dice, D&D doesn't use them much but the World of Darkness games use them exculsively.)

20. How about some semiprecious stone dice?
And hey, don't dig on the D&D not being mature. I'm 33, and I still play roleplaying games. Some of my gamer friends are as young as 19 or as old as 45. It's fun, creative, and social.

24. No offense meant. I didn't mean to imply that D&D players are immature --
Edited on Thu Dec-15-05 10:04 AM by bertha katzenengel
I meant only to state that my nephew is socially immature for his age.

This is a GREAT idea. Thank you!!

edit: what kind of dice? "dwarven?" I am SO clueless... Help!

25. I would agree normally - and I'll probably get those for my other nephew
when the time comes. But Chris is special.

Well, christ. Why not? He's got the body and hormones of an adult male. And the reasoning of a 14-year-old. Yeah, he needs condoms.

I'm just thinking... he is so socially awkward, how would he meet a girl who'd be interested?

I'm just glad I'm not the kid's mom. :scared:
