Yay! I bought "Amelie" today!!
:bounce: and I've been kicking ass on my final exam work, so i think i'll reward myself by staying up late tonight to watch it!!

now the question is, should i watch it with or without the anglais subtitles...i suppose that depends on how many beers i drink between now and then :D

2. If I could speak french well enough, I'd watch without subtitles
Good purchase, by the way. Love that film.

3. i like the challenge
but if i'm too tired, i'll just watch it with them. i'm in 2 classes right now, a 2nd year French and a 3rd year, and strangely enough, i find that i do quite well in the 3rd year, watching films w/out subtitles and speaking no English at all in class. My 2nd year class bores me to tears :boring:

5. Ooh, my friend has been trying to get me to watch it
with her, but haven't had the chance.

Did you see A Very Long Engagement? Audrey Tatou is a great actress, and she is HOT!

Let me know how it is.

i'll have to check it out, i'm sure they have it at the local video store.

i've heard nothing but good things about Amelie, which is why i bought it instead of renting it. :)

but, i will let you know, of course. :hi:

reminds me of when I first saw Jules et Jim, and how exciting that was. There is nothing like French cinema - Amelie has that wonderful offbeat and sweet quality.

11. The subtiltes are very subtle in the movie....
I would leave them on in case they speak in slang....

15. can't hurt!
i'd like to see an edition with French subtitles, that's my favorite. My reading comprehension is above my oral comprehension, which is to be expected, so when i can combine the 2, it's really very enjoyable. :)

i watched one last week for film class, "Monsieur Batignole", which is a wonderful film, but the subtitles were crap! way off from what was being said, and i know that's because of frame rates or something...hence why i prefer the french subtitles :)

no, i haven't seen that one yet! i'll put it on the list! thank you! :hi:

24. Amelie may be my favorite movie of all time.
There is a new DVD from the director, Jeunet, called "A Very Long Engagement" with a short appearance by Jodie Foster. She speaks perfect French. It also is starring Audrey Tautou. It is a little darker, but still creative and wonderful.

The music in Amelie is very catchy, too!

18. did you see dirty pretty things?
stephen frears movie... of all her movies i have seen, i thought audrey was the most beautiful in that

thematically dark, but there was something so earthy & perfect about her look in it...

20. frears is a great director
he did dangerous liaisons, high fidelity, my beautiful laundrette, the grifters to name a few

he goes all over the place with the projects he does, and for the most part they are consistently good

22. as far as jeunet...
i have to confess, i wasn't so crazy about un long dimanche de fiançailles :(

i thought there were too many characters... which subsequently diluted the emotional resonance of the central characters' relationship... that should have been the anchor of the film, but it got lost in the mesh...

sometimes less is more... amelie is a work of perfection imho

Amelie is just the most charming film I have ever seen. Tautou really reminds me of Audrey Hepburn.

41. I would gander they will do a good job of it.
I haven't read the book, but the subject matter seems interesting. I have read a few books about the links between Christianity and Masonry and Pagan mysterey religions.

So, maybe it will be good. I will check it out for the cast.

31. Good, good, good-
smacks and sweet kisses to your cheeks, eyes, forehead, and little chin, like Amelie's. I've seen it a dozen times, and wouldn't you know, I cry every time I see the old man in the phone booth opening his childhood box of treasures. Why? Cause I'm a SUCKER!
