Incredibly dumb question about wireless cell phone internet service.
OK, I'm contemplating getting a Palm Treo, which is a cell phone with internet and email, and a bunch of other crap that I do not need. Anyway, the sales guy told me I could get internet anywhere, but don't I have to be in a hot spot, or wi-fi place, or something? I'm pretty techno-impaired, so I can't understand how I can use the phone to go on the internet from just any old place. Can someone explain this to me?

Your technology scares me!

1. You get a wireless component that is similar to a cell phone.
IOW....Sprint makes a component for your laptop that goes in the slot for your network card....you get a signal, just like a cell phone...and voila, you are on the net.

Drawback: It is slow. Not as bad a dialup, but still slow.

2. You connect to it
over your mobile phone line. Watch the cost ...

4. Heh, about the only thing I actually understood in your post was
that it's pricey! :D

Anyway, I take it that I can, in fact, use the internet anywhere, and do not need to be in a wi-fi area or hot spot, or whatever the hell it's called. As for the expense, my understanding is that I can get unlimited internet usage for a fixed fee on the monthly bill, so I may be able to live with that. Thanks!

5. it depends on the fee
you'll only be restricted by your location relative to provider cell phone towers.
