2. Nearly bought one
I'd considered getting one. Apparently my legs were built for kilts. Alas, I thinks I'd only one to Scottish functions. And I stopped going to those. I much prefer shorts. Those I wear to work in the summer season.

6. I've worn a Utilikilt to some picnics and art openings.
Purists (you know who you are) will turn up their noses at this as "not the real thing" and I know it. But functionally, it makes more sense to wear a canvas kilt to a summer cook-out than a wool tartan with an over the shoulder tunic and all those other wonderful accoutrements that would have people scratching their heads at a barbeque.

It's really comfortable and I've had nothing but compliments. It would not work at my workplace because it is casual and too arresting in a professional setting. A full-dress kilt wouldn't be casual, so I think someone else could do it where I work, but I don't think I would.

9. Yeah, especially if you're not sure you'll wear it.
I had it for a short while before I wore it out of the house. I wore in the house to get accustomed to it. Then the cost was actually a motivator for wearing it someplace. Getting in and out of a car takes a little planning, especially a low car. :P

16. I think they're nice, and there's no reason why one has to be

purist about a kilt. Any guy in a dress is *hot*, in my opinion, purist, or not. And my best friend used to date a very good friend of the Utilikilts guy, and she could get them at a good discount. Alas, they broke up, and her new boyfriend can't get anything at a good discount... For Steve's b-day (I think that's the kilt guy's name), his girlfriend had a white fur kilt made, with matching white boots. Fun people. And, since it's a Pac NW company, I fully support it.

*edited to change one spelling of "kilt," from "quilt."

11. Some people at work wore one on St. Andrews' Day.
And very smart they looked too!

They're just celebrating their Scottish heritage. If I had money I might buy a kilt but I'm only an honourary Scotsman - I'm English by birth. I managed to crucify a haggis one Burns night... but that's a whole different story.

Mark.

12. My nephew wears his to high school very Friday
He asked the principal's permission. She only had two caveats:

1.) He had to wear shorts or boxers under the kilt, and
2.) No sgain dubh (zero tolerance weapons policy)

It may have helped that his principal's last name is Griffiths.

Guys made fun of him for wearing it... once. Then they saw how the girls reacted to it.

14. Why not, I'm already considered eccentric
I would probably go for the Utilikilt thing rather than a tartan
